Claypit Hill News and More
April 14, 2025
Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,
We sincerely hope that our Jewish community members enjoyed a happy Passover.
We hope that snow is officially behind us and that the weather next week is mild and allows for lots of outdoor play and safe travel for anyone on the move. Due to the wild weather, we postponed our Claypit Campus and Garden Cleanup to May 9th. We hope you’ll mark this new date on your calendar and join us.
Thank you to Firefighter Patrick Walkinshaw for providing the students of Claypit with fire safety education this week. Please ask your child what they learned and what steps they’d recommend at our home for preventing fire emergencies and staying safe should there be a fire. We are grateful for our partnership with the Wayland Fire Department.
The week after vacation, many of the district’s administrators will be gathering for a community book talk. We’ll be discussing the book, Accountable: The True Story of a Racist Social Media Account and the Teenagers Whose Lives It Changed by Dashka Slater. This is a must read for all parents. This award winning author shares the complexities of this case leaving the reader with so much to think and talk about. We will be helping to facilitate the conversation along with administrators from across the district. Please consider joining us on April 29th at Wayland High School from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. If you can’t make this conversation, there will be another opportunity on May 1st from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Town Building.
Finally, for our Christian community members who will be observing Holy Week this week and celebrating Easter on Sunday, we wish you a blessed holiday!
Sincerely,
Marie, Kate and Naomi

5th Grade Fly Up Date Date Correction
To the parents of our rising 5th graders who are readying to transition to Wayland Middle School: There was a typo in the communication sent to you Monday morning. “Fly Up Day”, a day when the current 5th graders board buses and visit Wayland Middle School, will be held on May 22nd NOT on May 12th. Please accept our apologies for the misinformation.

Claypit Composting
Order compost, soil or leaf mulch for your garden this spring through Black Earth to support our cafeteria composting program. Claypit earns 15% from each purchase which we’ll put towards our 2025-2026 composting program. Our 4th and 5th graders have re-started our composting effort at lunch, and the program will eventually be rolled out to all grades. Thanks in advance for your support and happy gardening this spring!
Claypit Campus and Garden Clean Up - May 9
Claypit Campus and Garden Clean Up - MAY 9
Due to the cold and snowy weather, we’ve postponed the spring garden clean-up to Friday, May 9. Please RSVP here and join us to help get our school’s outdoor space ready for spring – we will pick up trash, clean out beds, and prep our community garden for spring planting.
We need more parent support to keep these green initiatives going! If you are interested in helping, please contact ClaypitPTO@gmail.com.

MCAS Dates are Finalized
The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provides districts with a testing window. We have scheduled our assessments late in the window to provide for as much time for teaching and learning as possible before the assessments. As a result, there is little time provided for make up tests. It is imperative that travel not be scheduled during the MCAS testing days. Please support our school by planning accordingly.
