Yearly forms:
Please take a few minutes to complete your child's demographic forms on PowerSchool.
It is important that this information be kept up-to-date every year, especially if there is a change in medical status, parent/guardian/emergency contact information, and/or address.
Students who do not have their forms in by the end of Sept. will see a disruption in their computer access.
If you need assistance with using PowerSchool - including completing and submitting yearly consent and demographic forms online - please contact Miss Miller in the office.
Excellence in Learning
Our students have been hard at work with our number one priority, learning. Experiential Learning in our classrooms has helped ensure that students are given the opportunity to explore learning in a deep, meaningful, collaborative and engaging way. From our Science Labs, to our Math Classrooms, to our Foods Lab, to our Art Classes, to our Elementary, to our Humanities Disciplines, to our Band Program, students continue to be met where they are at, challenged and encouraged to grow in their ability to critically think, solve problems and creatively express themselves.
Attendance Matters:
Student success and a sense of belonging starts with consistent attendance at school.
Terry Fox Run at New Norway School
It takes a village
A special Thank you to Mrs. Fleck and Mrs. Williams and all the volunteers that helped make our welcome back breakfast and Terry Fox run a success.
A big thank you to everyone who generously donated to our Terry Fox Run. We are pleased to announce that we were able to raise $1783.20 towards Cancer research. It was a well-attended event and the students showed pride, empathy and determination on our run. Way to go Spartans!
Parent Lockdown Information
Battle River School Division has an emphasis on safe and caring schools. Part of providing a safe learning environment is helping students and staff be prepared for an emergency.
Our school holds six fire drills each year and we will also be holding two lockdown drills – one in October and another in the spring.
A lockdown is when all the students and staff are tucked into their classrooms (or another safe, lockable area of the school) to avoid an intruder inside the building. This is not a situation we expect our schools to encounter but, just like a fire drill, practicing will help us all be better prepared if such an incident does occur.
When we hold our lockdown drill, discussions will also take place with students in a calm, sensitive, age-appropriate way, so as not to generate anxiety or fear. If you’d like to speak to your children ahead of time, to provide additional reassurance that they are safe at school and drills are what we do so we are prepared ‘just in case’, we would welcome your support.
It is possible we will have police officers present for the drill, as well as representatives of the school division. Their role is to help us evaluate our preparedness and suggest any changes we might make in future drills.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Pick up and Drop off areas:
To ensure the safety of our students we are asking parents to not use the staff parking lot area. While we understand that this takes away some convenience, we are concerned about the safety of your children.
Thank you for your attention to this.
Visiting New Norway School:
To ensure a safe environment for all, we kindly ask that all parents and guests come to the school office upon arrival during school hours. Please refrain from using side doors to enter classrooms or the gym unless it is during authorized after hours event.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community.
Excellence in Athletics
The Spartans have been busy! Our student-athletes have not only focused on performance and skill building they have worked on building confidence in themselves, teamwork, goal setting, perseverance, resiliency and sportsmanship. Our Senior Women’s Golf Team won Bronze at the CASAA Zone Championships. Our Senor Volleyball teams have quickly made a name for themselves as being contenders in the Central Zone. Our Junior High had so much interest in volleyball we had to make four teams! And our XC Runners have, en masse, run with heart at three races already - Hardisty, Bashaw and the Vikings Race.

Dear Parents and Guardians of BRSD:
It has been a great start to the BRSD school year! September has been filled with excitement and energy, as our schools have come alive with many welcome back activities, barbecues, extracurricular programs, and rich learning opportunities. It's wonderful to see our students, staff, and families reconnecting with our school communities.
This month, our students and staff have engaged in meaningful learning experiences around significant events. As we approach National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, our schools have been involved in activities and discussions to honour and reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools. This is a vital part of our commitment to reconciliation, and we are dedicated to fostering understanding and respect for Indigenous cultures and histories within our school communities.
Additionally, our schools have participated in the Terry Fox Run, continuing the tradition of honoring a courageous Canadian hero whose determination continues to inspire us all. It has been heartening to see our students come together to celebrate Terry's legacy and raise awareness and funds for cancer research. BRSD has raised over $1.06 million during 447 division events.
Our focus remains on our vision, Every Student, Every Day, a Success, while we continue to enact a variety of strategies to support our Three Year Educational Plan. Schools are implementing programs and supporting literacy and numeracy improvement in all grade levels across the division. In addition to this, seventeen BRSD teachers are piloting the new social studies curriculum in our schools. This pre-implementation activity for social studies will enable our teachers to gain experience and develop expertise in the new curriculum which will support student learning this year and in future years.
All of our Kindergarten to Grade 6 classrooms have been equipped with sound field systems. This benefits all students in classrooms, as students will be able to hear more clearly. Our technology team continues with the installation of ViewSonic Interactive ViewBoards. These initiatives are designed to support staff in an engaging student learning environment.
We have already seen great enthusiasm from our students participating in extracurricular activities. This participation plays a vital role in building confidence and teamwork and fosters a sense of belonging. I want to thank our staff coaches, community volunteer coaches, supervisors and referees who make this possible.
Our school start-up has been fast, furious and fun. Here is a media release that sums up September. As we advance into the school year, we are excited about endless learning opportunities for our students. Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our division. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!

I’d like to acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting grounds, gathering place, and travelling route to the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux. We acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries.
