This is a reminder that our MCHS Awards Night will be happening tomorrow at the MCCC. If you received an invitation or your child has expressed to you that they are receiving an award, please feel free to make your way to the community center for 6:30 pm. The event will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.
Remembrance Day Celebration
Please join us for our Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday, November 8th at 10:35 a.m. We would be honored to have parents, families and guardians in attendance. The ceremony will take place at Morinville Community Cultural Center.
We would like to acknowledge members in our community for their service and bravery. Please send photos of any family members dressed in uniform if you wish to be included in the Remembrance Day Ceremony presentation. All emails can be forwarded to aadams@gsacrd.ab.ca by Monday, November 4th, 2024.
CITIZENSHIP
Seven Grandfather Teachings
Throughout the month, students and staff will be invited to recognize and celebrate acts of “Courage” within our school community. We encourage students to nominate friends or classmates who embody this teaching. Nominations can be submitted to Student Services or the Star Spirit Lodge, and students who are nominated will be honoured with a Howls lunch.
By recognizing the Grandfather Teaching of Courage, we hope to foster a community built on respect, resilience, and cultural awareness. Thank you for your support in encouraging our students to learn and grow through these valuable teachings.
Cribbage with Aspen House Residents
MCHS is thrilled to announce a meaningful partnership with Aspen House, where our students and the residents come together to enjoy games of cribbage. This initiative provides a unique opportunity for students to connect with the residents, share stories, and learn from one another through friendly competition and conversation. We’re proud to see MCHS students building community bonds and enriching lives across generations.
Food Band Donations
Don't forget to bring items for the food bank! The class with the most will be receiving root beer floats! We're taking donations until November 7th.
SAFE AND CARING SCHOOLS
Get Involved
Consider participating in Movember activities as a family:
Grow mustaches or wear themed attire to spark discussions.
Join local events promoting men’s health awareness
Walk/run 60km over the month of November as a tribute to the 60 men per day who die from suicide.
Check out this article from the Movember website featuring former Oilers legend, Georges Laraque, discussing the reality of men's mental health.
Student Services Nutrition Support
Here at MCHS we are lucky to have grant funding to support our students' nutritional needs. Fresh fruit is available for all students to take when they require a snack to keep them going for the day. We also have a toast program, and various food events throughout the year that all students are welcome to participate in.
In addition, Students Services carries extra snacks and soup for our students who have food security challenges at home. We want to ensure that all students have the nutrition required to do their best at school, recognizing that families have different levels of need. If you think your learner may benefit from extra nutrition support at school, due to food access challenges at home, please contact Corinna Cormier at ccormier@gsacrd.ab.ca or by phone at 780-9396891 so that they can be added to our Nutritional Support List. Being on this list will allow your learner to access extra nutritional support at the school, ensuring that our resources are reaching the students who need it most.
Counselling Corner
We'd like to take the time to mention that we offer a range of counselling services at MCHS. Whether it be for academic or personal reasons, students can get help. See the contact information below for details.

Halloween Festivities
MCHS was buzzing with excitement as students took part in a series of fun activities! We gave out prizes with our Plinko board, played a thrilling round of musical chairs, and tested our skills with minute-to-win-it games. The day also included a challenging murder mystery and a lively game of bingo, bringing everyone together. A huge thank you to all the organizers for making this day unforgettable and to our students for dressing up and joining in the spirit of the event!
Outdoor Education 9 Field Trip
Our Grade 9 students recently embarked on an unforgettable outdoor education adventure at Camp Yowochas! They took on challenges like archery, where they honed their aim and focus, and braved the climbing wall, pushing themselves to new heights. Students also learnt the very important skill of "fire building". This field trip offered a perfect blend of skill-building, adventure, and fun, making it an experience to remember! Thank you Mrs. Cancian and Mr. Coxen for taking our students out on this awesome trip.

Above the Law
Gospel Reading - Mark 12:28-34
31st Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year B
Are you above the law? According to God you are! Before we can love our neighbor, before we can fully love God, we need to love ourselves, see ourselves as God sees us. Above every other law, these all come first.
November and the Communion of Saints
- November is the month when we especially remember the deceased. The entire month of November is designated as a month of remembering and honouring all of our friends and family who have died.
- The celebration of Halloween (All Hallow's Eve) is a tradition that comes from the celebration of two important days at the start of November: the Solemnity of All Saints and the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed fall back-to-back to express the Christian belief of the "Communion of Saints":
- November 1 is the Solemnity of All Saints (aka All Saints Day). This is the day the Church honours all of God's saints, even those not canonized by the Church. It is meant to be a day of celebration—we celebrate the memory of all those now sharing eternal happiness in the presence of God.
- November 2 is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (aka All Souls' Day), a day to pray for all the departed souls in Purgatory and to ask them to pray for us!
