KINDERGARTEN NEWS
This week, kindergarten students took a field trip to Tranquility Farms! We have been learning all about parts of a pumpkin, as well as the life cycle of a pumpkin during science. It was so much fun being able to pick our very own ripe pumpkins right off the vines! In ELA, both classes have enjoyed diving into our shared reading routines. We read the same book all week, focusing on different skills every day. Our students are becoming great sight word detectives, rhyming word experts, and are doing a great job identifying the characters and settings throughout each book. They are also doing a wonderful job identifying letters, knowing the sounds they represent, and writing them using our Fundations guidelines. Now that we know the difference between vowels and consonants, we have been busy working to decode and spell CVC words! In math, our number formation and ability to count and compare quantities within 10 is getting stronger and stronger. We are looking forward to more fall fun together!
FIRST GRADE NEWS
First Graders have been hard at work in reading workshop! The students have been working on building good reading habits. They are practicing how to solve tricky words by doing things like; getting a running start, looking at all of the word parts, and trying the vowel sound two ways. Students have also picked up some great reading habits such as; taking a sneak peak in their book, rereading to make their voice smooth, and rereading to see and learn more. The first graders are enjoying the time they spend reading from their book bags and we are so excited to watch them grow as readers this year!
THIRD GRADE NEWS
Third graders have enjoyed learning about our place in this world. They learned the seven continents by learning a fun, catchy song. Do you know how many counties are in New Jersey? Well, ask a third grader! In Social Studies, we are studying Sussex County. Third graders are learning about Sussex County's history, recreation, government, and transportation.
We reviewed how to write a well developed paragraph with a topic sentence, several detailed sentences, and a closing sentence. We are starting to write personal narratives. Students will be writing about their experiences and using the writing process. In reading, we have started reading Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner.
Next week, we have our field trip to Franklin Mineral Museum on Thursday, October 24th.

MRS. RIVA NEWS
We have already been back in school for seven weeks, and the children are comfortable with their daily schedules! From the moment they arrive at school all the way until dismissal, the children follow a predictable routine. To help support them during the transition from summer to school, consider setting up a simple schedule for after school activities! The link below has printable checklists and planners to use at home as well as several articles to help your child navigate the school year!
