Team Tikal Update
October 26
October 31 and November 1
Students are permitted to wear costumes on October 31. Costumes may not interfere with learning. This means no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision, prevent sitting at desks, or prevent participation in physical education class. Additionally, costumes must not obstruct movement in the hallways.
- Costumes may not promote violence or have accessories or props that could be used as a weapon.
Masks are not permitted.
Make-up or face-paints are permitted.
You must be able to sit, walk, breathe, see and hear (no masks that cover the face).
Costumes cannot promote use of drugs, alcohol or weapons of any kind.
All school rules will be enforced (i.e., no bikes, skateboards, roller blades, etc.).
Students should not wear costumes that make fun of others.
We are asking students to only bring 5 or fewer pieces of candy to school on Tuesday, November 1. Large bags of candy will be confiscated and returned to students after school.
The last school day of term 1 is November 2.
The end of term is quickly approaching. Please encourage your child to proactively check Aspen and turn in missing assignments now.
Science with Ms Baker - (she/her) - Room RG02 - Email: christine.baker@k12.dc.gov
This week students studied the digestive system. They were thoroughly grossed out by our constant talk of feces. Next week students will complete their first engineering lab of the year. If you have been saving your toilet paper rolls, your student will need them on Monday and Tuesday. If anyone has old duct tape that they do not need, we could use it for this lab. Thank you!
Math 7 and Math 8 with Mr Walton - (he/him) - Room RG01 - Email: sean.walton@k12.dc.gov
All math 7 & 8 students should have at least 6 I-ready lessons completed by 11/2 when Term 1 grades are due for teachers.
Math 7 is still in unit 2 as we complete lessons 8 and 9. Students will also take a summative (b) to assess students on graphing proportional relationships.
Real world application, in the store or when making payments… Ask your scholars questions related to what we are doing in class.
Example: How would you find the total cost if we know how much one item cost? (multiply)
Or
How would you find the number of items bought if we know the total and the cost for one item? (divide)
Math 8 students are moving into unit 3 as we work on lessons 1 and 2. We will review proportional relationships as a tunnel to linear relationships and slope later in the unit.
