From the Desk of Mr. Braithwait
I met with the Unity Council the other day. When they came in for our first meeting it hit
me that this group were freshmen just 20 minutes ago (Actually 4 years ago) during my first
year at Wallace, and now they are seniors talking about graduation. I’m looking forward to
working with this group of leaders. The first thing the Unity Council is doing is having a food
gathering competition. The 7 members got together and had a draft to pick who was on their
team. Every high school student is selected to a team. The goal is to see what team can raise
the most items for our school food pantry. If you would like to donate items to the school
pantry and have no idea how you can get them to us, you can call me at the school, I’ll make
sure we get someone to your house and pick up the items. If it’s easier for you to drop off
things at the school, please leave those items at the front office. Please remember, we cannot
accept home canned items. With the hard work and determination of our students, and your
generosity, we can make the holidays a little brighter for some families. It truly is remarkable
how this community supports our pantry, which is really important to our community. Last year
we served over 25 different families, some of them several times, to help those families during
a tough time.
Speaking of the Food Pantry, the BF Foundation is again looking for donations to help
with Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last Thanksgiving, we gave out 14 turkeys with a pantry box
of food. We made sure 23 children had at least 3 presents under the tree for Christmas. We
also provided a gift certificate for groceries for each family we helped out. If you know of
anyone in our school that could use the help, please contact Mr. Ferguson, or I, at the school.
Any financial donations would be extremely helpful in raising the number of people we help.
Thank you in advance for your support! You truly are changing lives.
The next time I write to you the Cross Country season will be over, the regular season in
football will be complete, and volleyball district play will have started. It won’t be long and we’ll
be singing Christmas Carols. In the meantime, good luck to all of you that are harvesting, GO
WILDCATS!!! GO HUSKERS

Wallace FFA News
Hello friends of the FFA, the first competitions of the year have started and our chapter is happy to be competing again! We had several members compete at the State Fair. We are proud of their hard work and the many others who competed! Our FFA members had the opportunity to attend the district range judging competition in Arthur on September 10th. The members had a great time, and competed very well! Wallace had the opportunity to send two teams to the state competition in Chase County. At districts Allyson Kemp placed 1st, Lydia Friesen placed 7th, Reagan Martin placed 8th, and Cauy Robinson placed 15th! These individuals made up the district winning team! Riggen Kettler placed 22nd, Colby Holm placed 23rd, Rally Kettler placed 27th, and Carson Lange made up the 6th place district team. These 8 individuals had the opportunity to represent Wallace FFA at the state competition on September 25th. On September 21st, Our FFA chapter was able to participate in the Wallace Fall Festival Parade! The theme this year was “Keeping It Local.” This year our float was decorated with local commodities! Our many members had the opportunity to ride the float and throw out candy! On October 9th, our members have the opportunity to compete in the district livestock judging, Agronomy, or Farm and Business Management competitions in Valentine. Individuals who qualify for state competition will get the opportunity to compete again at the State convention in Lincoln on April 2-4! Also on October 9th, our Chapter Officer team will get the opportunity to attend the Connecting Chapters training. This allows our chapter to go into elementary classrooms and teach the students about agriculture. Our members always enjoy going into the classrooms and helping teach the younger students! On October 23-26, a group of our Chapter Officers will attend the National FFA Convention! These individuals will get the opportunity to visit Churchill downs, and attend sessions, leadership workshops, a rodeo and concert! On top of these fun activities two members will get to be recognized and receive our National Chapter Award! Each year our chapter works hard to be able to receive this award, so we are happy to be recognized on a national level!
