From the Principal's Desk
December 6
Greetings FWAFA Family,
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Krista Langford, Lindy Davis, Rebecca Magnus, Michelle Haas, Kerra Simmons, Jonathan Ledger, Christina Carter, Ben Phillips, Jasmine Jaramillo, Lori Vasquez, Laura Lee McCartney, Susan Brents-Sheldon, Andrea Ervin, Kari Makoutz, and all of the student performers for the absolutely astonishing performances in the collaborative effort of Joy in the Journey.
I would also like to give a shout out to our Thespian Troupe #6391, who have been responsible for turning our halls into a winter wonderland, and especially to Sophomore Jenevieve Kaplan, who was the chairperson for those decorations. I feel like there is something new every time I walk down a different hall, and it is all fabulous.
We have several big performances coming up in the next two weeks. Don't miss the Children's Choir of Texas this Thursday evening and Texas Boys Choir and Singing Girls of Texas next week. You can purchase tickets at artsacademics.org/TICKETS.
I would also like to remind everyone that FWAFA does not allow outside food or drinks to be dropped off for students, and we also do not interrupt classes for gift/flower deliveries. Please help us maximize students' time on task and engagement with the lesson by not dropping off these items to be delivered. Your help and support is much appreciated.
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jackson
Junior Thespians Win at State Festival!
FWAFA took 11 7th and 8th graders in Theatre to the Junior Thespian State Festival on Saturday. These students included:
- Eva Camarena
- Emily Segura
- Ami Creedon
- George Ledingham
- Novella Huynh
- Jade Martinez
- Janaya Bure
- Kolby Hribar
- Oliver Cepeda
- Ruby Watson
- Brett Martin
Each troupe competed in a technical challenge that involved wrapping chords, two specific knot challenges, a quick change, and hanging/focusing a light. Our technical team consisted of Novella, Emily, George, Eva, Brett, and Jade.
We earned first place in our rotation, received multiple accolades from teachers and festival staff, and Eva hung and focused a light in a record 1:23 seconds The only person that beat her was someone who does lighting for their school. Eva has never hung a light before!
Ms. Wilton and Ms. Carter are so proud of our students for representing FWAFA so well during this challenge, especially taking into consideration that only ONE of those students is in a technical theatre class!
In addition, our improv troupe competed and TOOK FIRST PLACE! We only had three rehearsals and we were going to gain experience and work on our skills, so a first-place win and receiving all 1s (highest ranking in each round) was a testament to how well the group worked together, took direction, and took risks! Our improv troupe consisted of George (Team Captain), Brett, Novella, Ami, Kolby, and Emily. Please congratulate them when you see them!
