Mountain View Weekly Update

Make Your Voice Heard and Vote Tuesday
Next week residents will have the opportunity to make a difference in the future of our schools by voting in the bond referendum.
Before casting your ballot, review what’s proposed including FAQs and informational videos at mendhamboro.org/vote.
Know your polling place. Polls will be open Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
District 1 and 2: Garabrant Center, 4 Wilson St.
District 3 and 4: Fire House, 24 E Main St.
District 5: Mendham Area Senior Housing, 1 Heritage Manor Dr.
If you are unsure of your polling location, click here.
Remember to postmark Vote By Mail ballots. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked, mailed or deposited into a drop box by Jan. 28; they will not be accepted at the polls.
If you arrive at the polls and are told that your ballot was already mailed to you, ask for a provisional ballot. This means your ballot will be counted once all mailed ballots are double-checked and processed.
One vote can make a difference, so participation from every Mendham Borough resident truly matters.
Announcements & Updates
- Congratulations to fifth graders TJ Bulwith, Chris Gleason, Port Arroyo, Aaryav Patel, and Lucas Vazquez who completed in the 29th annual West Morris Junior Women's Club spelling bee last weekend. Port Arroyo finished in second place and will advance to the Highlands District Regional Spelling Bee in February.
- Attention all parents: By now, you should have received a communication from your child's Core team teachers and the Related Arts team with important updates as we begin the third marking period. The communication also contains preliminary information regarding Mountain View's upcoming Spotlight Night. If you have not already done so, please review the contents of those emails.
- Attention 8th grade parents:
- The second installment for the 8th grade trip to Gettysburg/Hershey, in the amount of $157.50, is due by January 27.
- If you have not done so, please refer to the January 16 communication from Ms. Walsh regarding West Morris Mendham High School registration. Conference scheduling emails went sent on Thursday, January 23. Note that action is required; your cooperation and timeliness is appreciated.
- A note about Promotion... The Promotion ceremony will take place at West Morris Mendham High School at 5:30 p.m. on the last day of school, which is tentatively scheduled for June 12. The calendar will be finalized in early Spring to account for any unused emergency closing days, therefore, the last day of school may change. Please pencil in June 9 -12 as possible Promotion dates for the time-being.
- On January 27, Mountain View staff will be administering an ELA assessment to all students at Mountain View using the LinkIt! online testing platform. The district has been using LinkIt! since 2015; students have multiple years of experience with this platform. Each year, we administer three rounds in both ELA and Mathematics , with the data from each round being used in various ways, from providing information about student progress, to evaluating our programs. To create a more formal testing atmosphere, we will have all the students remain in their homeroom to complete the Form B assessments, which is consistent with the administration of the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment in the spring. Note that a revised bell schedule will be in place, with all students taking the LinkIt! From 8:30 - 9:45, and the normal class schedule resuming thereafter.
- Marking period 2 report cards will be released to the Parent Portal on January 29 at 3:30 p.m. Students in grades 6-8 achieving a 92% or above across all courses (Related Arts included) will be awarded Principal's Honor Roll. Students in grades 6-8 who achieve a 90% or above in their core classes (Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science) will earn Honor Roll. Fifth graders will be eligible for Honor Roll in the second semester (marking periods 3 & 4).
- All Spring sports physicals (Baseball, Softball, G/B LAX) and related paperwork are due by Friday, March 7 to be cleared by Dr. Porter on March 13. Please refer to the Student Athlete Information page for instructions. Tryouts are scheduled to begin the week of March 19. Please note that a sports physical submitted for a fall or winter sport may have expired. If you are unsure, please reach out to Mrs. Austenberg.
