First Week Back! 💜
Welcome back, Calhoun Middle School families!
We've wrapped up our first full week in our beautiful new building, and what a week it’s been! A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff for their hard work and enthusiasm in making this transition smooth and exciting for our students. They have embodied the IB Learner Profiles by being knowledgeable, reflective, and caring. We also want to extend our thanks to all the parents and guardians for your patience, flexibility, and support as we’ve settled into new routines at home and at school.
We have officially opened our PTA membership for the school year and we invite all to join and become a member of the Calhoun PTA for the 2024-2025 school year. Your involvement makes a huge difference in our school community of inquirers and communicators and together we can make this inaugural year on Crescent Street a success.
Warm regards,
Lilliana Wright

🐎 COLT KICKOFF 2024👏
Colt Kickoff 2024 was a good time! All grade levels were invited to tour the new campus before the first day of school. PTA had a photo booth which parents loved and kids tolerated. Thanks for being open-minded Colts! Here are some photos of the event.
🥪 TEACHER BACK TO SCHOOL LUNCHEON 🥪
PTA treated all teachers and staff to a Build-Your-Own Sandwich Bar in the new cafeteria on Tuesday, August 6th as they prepared for the first day of school. Thank you to our volunteers that helped set up the spread and to our wonderful Calhoun PTA Community for your donations. We received $90 in monetary donations and several lunch items such as croissants, cookies, fruit, tea, condiments, and paper goods. We couldn't do this without the support of our caring Calhoun Middle School families. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Back-to-School Advice for Families of Middle School Students 🙃🤪
1. Help Establish a Consistent Routine
Middle school can be a big transition, so having a consistent routine is crucial. Encourage your child to set regular times for waking up, studying, and going to bed. A steady routine helps them manage their time and reduces stress.
2. Keep Communication Open
Middle schoolers might not always be eager to talk, but it’s important to keep the lines of communication open. Ask open-ended questions about their day, listen without judgment, and make sure they know you're there to support them through challenges.
3. Create a Focused Study Environment
As homework becomes more challenging, having a designated, distraction-free study area at home is essential. Ensure your child has the supplies they need and a quiet space where they can focus on their work.
4. Stay Involved, But Give Them Space
Middle school is a time when kids start seeking more independence, but they still need parental involvement. Stay connected with their teachers, attend school events, and show interest in their schoolwork—while also giving them space to grow.
5. Promote Healthy Habits
Good habits like getting enough sleep, eating healthy meals, and staying active are especially important during these growth years. Encourage your child to take care of their body, as it directly impacts their ability to focus and learn.
6. Support Social Development
Friendships become more important in middle school, but social dynamics can also be tricky. Encourage your child to build healthy relationships and talk through any social challenges they might face. Help them find activities where they can connect with peers in positive ways.
7. Nurture a Growth Mindset
Middle schoolers are learning to tackle more complex subjects, so it’s important to nurture a growth mindset. Encourage them to see challenges as opportunities to learn and remind them that effort is more important than perfection.
8. Teach Time Management Skills
Help your child develop time management skills by teaching them to break larger assignments into smaller tasks and to use planners or apps to keep track of due dates. These skills will be invaluable as their workload increases.
9. Encourage Independence and Responsibility
Middle school is a great time for kids to start taking more responsibility for their education. Encourage them to organize their schoolwork, manage their assignments, and reach out to teachers when they need help. This fosters independence and confidence.
10. Maintain a Positive and Supportive Attitude
The middle school years can be challenging, both academically and socially. Keep a positive and supportive attitude at home to help your child navigate these changes. Celebrate their successes, no matter how small, and remind them that it’s okay to make mistakes as part of the learning process.
We invite you to join our PTA ( Dads too!) and become an integral part of our school community! Your involvement helps us enhance the educational experience for all students. Whether you're interested in volunteering, sharing ideas, or supporting events, there's a place for everyone. Together, we can make a difference and create a vibrant, supportive environment for our children.
We look forward to having you on board! Scan the QR code to join!
Volunteer Opportunities
We will have several events this school year that require volunteers from our school community. It's our goal to offer our teachers a monthly snack/treat and a coffee walk. There will also be several dances scheduled throughout the year. If you are able to volunteer, we'd love to have you!
