Dress Code and Grooming
Standards for dress and appearance will support the academic setting and emphasize that learning is our main purpose. The purpose of having a dress code is to emphasize that school is the student’s and staff’s place of work and that respect for other members of society and oneself places some restrictions on the nature of dress and grooming. This dress code applies at all times as students enter the building or attend any after school events.
Clothing and accessories may not display obscene (violent or sexual) pictures, graphics, messages or double meaning statements.
Clothing, including hats, may not have alcohol, drug, or tobacco advertising or statements of any type.
Clothing cannot be demeaning toward or target any culture or ethnic group. This statement applies to all school sponsored or related activities and events.
Clothing should not bare traditional private parts: including buttocks, back or breasts.
Shirts must graze the top of pants.
Pants must be worn at least at, and not lower than, hip level.
Clothing will come to at least mid-thigh
Footwear must be worn at all times.
Hats are permitted as long as they are appropriate and do not distract students from learning, or interfere with instruction. If a teacher asks that a student take off a hat before entering their classroom, students are expected to honor that request.
If anyone is in violation of the dress code, they will be sent to the office and asked to change their dress to meet the standard. To review additional policy guidelines please refer to Administrative Policy S-41.

Los estándares de vestimenta y apariencia respaldarán el entorno académico y enfatizarán que el aprendizaje es nuestro principal propósito. El propósito de tener un código de vestimenta es enfatizar que la escuela es el lugar de trabajo de los estudiantes y el personal y que el respeto por los demás miembros de la sociedad y por uno mismo impone algunas restricciones sobre la naturaleza de la vestimenta y el aseo personal. El código de vestimenta se aplica a todos los eventos patrocinados por la escuela.
La ropa y los accesorios no pueden mostrar imágenes, gráficos, mensajes o declaraciones de doble sentido obscenos (violentos o sexuales). La ropa, incluidos los sombreros, no puede tener publicidad ni declaraciones de ningún tipo sobre alcohol, drogas o tabaco.
La ropa no puede ser degradante ni estar dirigida a ninguna cultura o grupo étnico.

WINTER DOOR DECORATING CONTEST - CONCURSO DE DECORACION DE PUERTAS DE INVIERNO
The school is having a winter classroom door decorating contest that started on December 2nd and will continue through December 18th. Doors will be judged and the top doors will be awarded prizes on December 20th.

NORDIC SKIING IS LOOKING FOR A 1:1 PARA SUPPORT FOR A NORDIC ATHLETE

SSMS PIC
The next PIC meeting will be on Wednesday, December 18. PIC supports the students and staff at SSMS through various programs including enrichment activities and materials for students, fundraising, parent educational presentations, staff appreciation, conference meals for staff and more. See Principal Heidi Chapman-Hoy's presentation from the October 16 meeting HERE. If you would like to be more involved with the PIC, please contact Val Dietrich, vdietrich@ssk12.org.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to the PIC, you may do so in the front office. If you shop at City Market, you can set up your value card to benefit SSMS. Register in January yearly at: https://www.citymarketcommunityrewards.com. You can also register with AmeriGas and they will pay $0.02 per gallon, up to a maximum of $2,000 per year!!

We Love Our Furry Friends, However...
To ensure the safety and comfort of everyone, dogs are not permitted on school grounds during academic hours or during school-sponsored events. Well-behaved dogs on leashes in parking lots during pick-up and drop-off are welcome. We kindly remind all dog owners to not walk through school campuses during school hours, including dogs on leashes.
The only exception is for service animals trained to assist individuals with disabilities, as outlined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These service dogs must perform specific tasks directly related to their handler’s disability.
This policy helps us maintain a safe environment for all students and staff. If you’re walking your pet nearby, please remember to clean up after them to help keep our grounds clean and healthy for everyone.

Amamos a Nuestros Amigos Peludos, Sin embargo...
Para asegurar la seguridad y comodidad de todos, no se permiten perros en los establecimientos escolares durante horas académicas o durante eventos patrocinados por la escuela. Los perros bien comportados con correa son bienvenidos en los estacionamientos durante el tiempo de recoger o dejar a los estudiantes. Les recordamos amablemente a todos los dueños de perros de no caminar en las propiedades de la escuela durante horas escolares, incluyendo perros con correas.
La única excepción es para animales de servicio entrenados a asistir individuos con discapacidades, como lo es resaltado por la ley ADA, (por sus siglas en inglés) Americanos con discapacidades. Bus Lanyards - Cintas Colgantes para los Buses
Many students were issued bus passes on red lanyards. They will be using these passes to enter and exit the bus, which will help us know where your student is at all times.
Please make sure the lanyards are kept in a safe place. We recommend you attach the pass to your student's backpack. If your student did not receive a bus pass, please complete this School Bus Transportation Request. Until we work out the kinks, all students are welcome on the bus without a pass.

If you do not have insurance, the amount you pay for services will be based on your family size and income. In partnership with LiftUp, we are excited to offer our students healthy snack options through the Rocket Pack program here at Steamboat Springs Middle School. We want these food resources to be connected to the students/families who truly need the support.
What is a rocket pack?
A Rocket Pack is a small selection of healthy snacks. The selection of snacks is chosen based on their sodium, sugar and fat levels. These snack options are provided to each student who registers for the program.
How does the program work?
LiftUp delivers the Rocket Packs to the middle school at the beginning of each week. The student then picks their snacks at the counseling office at their convenience.
How to register your students?
Click HERE to access the Rocket Pack form (Spanish form). If you would like your student to have access to this selection of snacks each week, please complete the form and return it to school. Your student can give it to one of the counselors or you can email it to apappanastos@ssk12.org.

En asocio con el LiftUp, estamos emocionados de ofrecer a nuestros estudiantes opciones de merienda saludables por medio del programa "Rocket Pack" aca en la escuela Intermedia de Steamboat Springs. Queremos que estos recursos alimenticios estén conectados a los estudiantes/familias quien realmente necesitan apoyo.
Que es un rocket pack?
Un Rocket Pack es una selección pequeña de bocadillos saludables. La selección de bocadillos es elegida basada en su sodio, niveles de azúcar y grasa. Estas opciones de bocadillos son proporcionadas a cada estudiante que se registre al programa=.
Como funciona este programa?
LiftUp envia los Rocket Packs a la escuela intermedia en el inicio de cada semana. Luego el estudiante recoge sus bocadillos en la oficina de consejería a su conveniencia.
Cómo registrar a sus estudiantes?
Presione ACÁ para acceder al formulario de Rocket Pack (Spanish form). Si le gustaría que su estudiante tenga acceso a esta selección de bocadillos todas las semanas, por favor complete el formulario y envíelo a la escuela.
