Immediately after the meeting, we will hold our Parent/teacher Conference. You will have the opportunity to meet all of your student's teachers and get an update on grades and behavior. Also, counselors and administrators will be available to discuss your student's progress!
Celebrating African American History Month
Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme.
The Black History Month 2025 theme, " African Americans and Labor", focuses on the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black people. Indeed, work is at the very center of much of Black history and culture. Be it the traditional agricultural labor of enslaved Africans that fed Low Country colonies, debates among Black educators on the importance of vocational training, self-help strategies and entrepreneurship in Black communities, or organized labor’s role in fighting both economic and social injustice, Black people’s work has been transformational throughout the U.S., Africa, and the Diaspora."
GCPS celebrates each and every individual as we cultivate a culture of belonging while leading with empathy, equity, and excellence to ensure that #TeamGCPS students, families and staff feel welcome, safe, accepted, valued, and prepared for the future. #GCPSBlueprint.
GIVE West celebrates Black History Month by honoring the rich culture and history through a variety of student-led educational and engaging programs.

Resources from Our Counselors
For Black History Month the Counseling Department is sending out lessons through Advisement on African Americans who have made a significant impact on Black History and American Culture. These heroes may be inventors, authors, educators etc.
We also put together a bulletin board in the cafeteria about stress relief, positive eating habits and health and fitness.
National School Counseling Week, Feb 6-10, highlights the unique contributions of school counselors within U.S. school systems and their tremendous impact on helping students achieve success and plan for a career. The counselors at GIVE are helping our students to dream big!
This month's SEL focus is the Recognition of Others' Emotions and Thoughts. A vital component of social intelligence includes students' ability to feel compassion and empathy for others. This skill includes seeing other individuals' points of view. Making sure students are equipped with empathy skills can help them be successful in school, work, and relationships as adults.
GIVE recognized Acts of Kindness Week from 2/14-2/20. Here are some ideas of how to practice kindness with your child:
Pathways2Life
Pathways2Life (P2L) is a prevention agency focusing on youth and young adult mental wellness through education, brief intervention, and support services.
Pathways2Life is committed to PREVENT addiction before it happens in this next generation. P2L educates students on the risks associated with early use. By being in the schools, P2L has the unique opportunity to engage students and help them identify risks associated with early use, make wise choices and live purposefully. There is a transition zone that exists between the ages of 13-20 where students are in the most danger for developing high-risk behavioral patterns. This presents an opportunity for Pathways2Life to engage students and help them to identify risks, choose wisely and live purposefully during those years which are traditionally middle and high school.
PathwaysLife2 partners with schools to transform lives.
For additional information about this program, please reach out to your student's counselor.
🌺Grow at GIVE
Grow at GIVE recently received an honorable mention in Project Green School’s Outdoor Classroom Challenge and a grant from the National Parks Trust. We hope to use the proceeds to take three dozen scholars aboard Lake Lanier’s floating classroom in order to participate in STEAM activities and to enhance their understanding of environmental issues. Additionally, students got to display their projects and to interact with Kendall Rae Johnson, USDA Youth Ambassador and America’s youngest certified farmer, at our Soil and Soul event.
There are also numerous deadlines on the horizon. Until the weather allows us to plant our next crop, please share these volunteer, internship, or summer enrichment opportunities with our scholars:
