Parkside Updates
Welcome to Week Twenty!
Students and Families,
We are entering our last week of the first semester. We are looking forward to a strong end of the semester and the start of new classes at the end of the month.
Thank you,
The Parkside Staff
Semester One Ending
Most students will have changes to their Unified Arts schedule for the second semester. Students can check Aspen for information on their schedule.
Spectators and Sporting Events
This is the last week of regular season home games for our basketball teams. As we enter this final week and playoffs we wanted to remind families that the purpose of each game is to provide the opportunity for our student-athletes to participate in competitive games that support their learning of the sport being played and to improve their skills.
It is important that spectators promote good sportsmanship, observe the rules of the Tri-County League and remember this is about student-athletes having fun and learning. We hope that you will enjoy the game and support your student-athletes in a positive and sportsmanlike manner. We can do this by positively cheering for Parkside and our student-athletes and refraining from making derogatory or negative remarks or cheers. Respect and sportsmanship should be shown to all players, coaches, officials, and other fans at all times. Any inappropriate comments or behavior will not be tolerated and will result in your removal from the game.
If you notice any spectators displaying negative behavior please alert the administrator on duty so we can address those individuals.
Let the players play
Let the coaches coach
Let the officials officiate
Let the spectators be positive!
Changes to Late Work Procedure
The following change will go into effect district wide for quarter 3.
Students are expected to meet the date benchmarks set forth by their teacher. Emphasis should be placed on the high level of achievement that can be earned by timeliness in life.
Late submissions of assessments will not be penalized. Work submitted 10 school days after the target due date will not be accepted by teachers without a student-created, written proposal to complete the work. This proposal must be submitted and approved by the teacher before the 10 school day late grace period is over. Teachers are encouraged to meet with students prior to the end of the grace period to support the student’s efforts in developing a proposal. Teachers will record the proposal (received date and end date) in the Student Information System/Journal once the proposal is submitted.
District and State Assessments
Next week, Parkside will be participating in districtwide assessments for math, reading and writing. These mid year assessments are important for us in understanding how are students are progressing academically and in identifying areas where we can provide extra support for students.
In the spring, we will also be participating in the statewide assessment. Please see the attached letter from our Superintendent, Dr. Chimel, regarding the district's participation in the statewide assessments.
