During Finals Week, all FHS students follow an alternative bell schedule. There is adjusted period lengths and times, and there are only two periods every day this week. There is also a longer lunch and tutor time available to support students through their finals. Students who may need to miss a final class period should arrange make-up time with their teacher. Students are expected to communicate with their teachers to ensure they complete finals by the end of the week
Fairview Special Education Knight of Transition
As the transition to high school looms large in the minds of 8th graders and their families, we know many questions arise! To best address those questions while continuing to provide our current students with our full attention, we have set aside an evening after the open enrollment window for students and their families to learn about special education services at Fairview. We encourage all families with questions about Fairview Special Education to attend this evening. This is the best opportunity to get information about special education at Fairview High School.
Please join us on Wednesday, 1/22/2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Fairview High School to learn more about our special education services.

One Community, One Book! Read "Accountable" and join us for an evening with Author & Journalist Dashka Slater
We invite FHS parents and students to join us in reading *Accountable: The True Story of a Racist Social Media Account and the Teenagers Whose Lives It Changed*, winner of the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction and a *School Library Journal* Best Book of the Year.
This gripping narrative nonfiction explores the real-world consequences of online choices. Author and journalist Dashka Slater will visit Fairview on January 30th for two events: an in-school field trip for students during Block 8 and an evening event at 6:30 PM open to the entire community (ages 13+), with childcare provided for ages 3+ by our National Honor Society. Join us in fostering critical discussions on the responsibilities individuals hold in their communities, with *Accountable* as a springboard for meaningful conversations about social media, online behavior, and hate speech. For questions, contact the FHS librarians, and sign up here.

Attendance Correction Slip (Oops Slip)
If a student believes they were incorrectly marked absent, they should visit the attendance desk in the front office to obtain an "Attendance Correction Slip." The student must then present the slip to their teacher for verification and a signature. Once signed, the slip should be returned to the attendance desk, where the record will be updated accordingly. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of their attendance.
Please note that attendance updates may take up to 48 hours, as staff review each case in the order in which calls and requests are received.

Free College Tours!
Join the GRAD+ team for free tours of FRCC Westminster (1/17), FRCC Boulder County (Longmont) (1/24) and Metro State University (1/31)! These tours will occur on three consecutive Fridays in January and are open to all interested BVSD high school students with preference possibly being given (depending on how many students sign up) to students who have filled out an Intent to Participate form for ASCENT or TREP. Tours start and end at Boulder TEC where we will collectively board BVSD buses, and your absence from Fairview will be excused. Metro will feed us a free pizza lunch! Please fill out this survey if you’re interested. The most important thing you have to do, though, is print out this permission slip, have a parent or guardian sign, and return it to me in my office in the library. If you’d rather pick up a permission slip, I have a stack on my desk – drop by and take one!
Let me know if you have any questions,

Club Spotlights
This week, we’re excited to highlight the Youth In Government Club
YIG (Youth in Government) is a club designed for students who want to learn and experience more about how our system of government works. In this club, students will go to the Colorado State Capitol Building in Denver and participate in a mock government for 4 days. During this time, they will create a bill in order to change or create a new law and be assigned a role within the government (Ex: part of the senate, the supreme court, etc.). This is for the purpose of letting students experience how our system of government functions.
