Parents will be sent home information ahead of time about food items at the party.
The week of October 14th we host parent-teacher conferences. It is important to the teachers to share your child's progress with you. If you have not scheduled a conference, please check the schedule below for your child's teacher and add your name. If spaces are not available, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher. Our goal is 100% parent participation.

Book Fair is Approaching!!!
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: 10/10 - 10/17
Location: Evening Street Library
Late night: Tuesday, October 15 from 4-7
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/eveningstreetelemschool1
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
If you would be able to help with the Book Fair during the teacher tea and with the classroom wish lists, here is the sign up: Book Fair Volunteers
Happy reading,
Mrs. Duffey
Support Student Council
Student Council members are asking the Evening Street community to help provide warmth to children in Worthington. They are seeking donations of gently used winter coats, hoodies, hats and gloves for children of all sizes. The collection will begin this week and end October 30th. New coats and jackets are also accepted. Thanks for considering a donation!!!
Zero Waste
Thanks so much to those who have signed up to help with Zero Waste at lunch time. This is a great program to teach our students about sustainability. If you are able to give 30 - 45 minutes at lunch time to help the children recycle, compost and donate untouched food, we could use your help. Sarah Kalish is organizing parent volunteers to help with our Zero Waste Lunch program.
If you are able to help, please sign up on the Zero Waste Sign Up Genius. We have a few uncovered days in October and are seeking to fill in November and December days.

School Safety
The safety of our staff, students, and community is always a priority in Worthington Schools.
Statistics show that when staff and students within a school are prepared with knowledge and practice, they respond to emergency situations with positive results. For that reason, schools have always engaged in routines, drills and learning that support everyone’s safety.
Historically, our schools have participated in the following safety drills:
A. Fire Drills that provide knowledge about reporting fire hazards, and experience with a safe evacuation of the building using multiple exits.
B. Weather Drills that provide knowledge about how to be calm and safe in the event of weather related events (such as a tornado), and experience with locating sheltered space within the building in which safety is maximized.
C. Safe School Drills that provide knowledge about circumstances in which free movement in and around the building is curtailed (such as neighborhood disturbances or unruly school visitors), and experience with locking down the school perimeter, classrooms, and common areas to keep students safe in a secure area until the circumstance passes.
D. Rally Point Drill- this drill is conducted in the event we would need to evacuate the building for any event that would cause a building evacuation like a gas leak or unsafe visitor, and moving to a predetermined safe space away from the school.
Ohio law requires public schools to conduct a "Full Scale" Safety Drill every three years. This comprehensive drill combines elements of the previously practiced drills and includes a controlled classroom lockdown, as well as a simulated evacuation to move students away from the building in the event of danger.
Our staff has been trained in the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) emergency response model, which includes additional countermeasures during a lockdown to facilitate a safe evacuation to a Rally Point. In the event of an emergency requiring relocation, students would be transported to a designated "reunification" location, with the Worthington Education Center (WEC) being our primary consideration.
On October 16th at 1:05 p.m. students will practice for a Full Scale Safety Drill by walking to our re-unification location. By being well-prepared for unplanned interruptions, we aim to build confidence and ensure the ultimate safety of our students. We know that when students feel safe and understand safety protocols, they can better focus on their learning.
Any visitor to the school is asked to sign in at the main office. The driver's license of the visitor is scanned through Visitor ID and a name badge is printed. Please remind emergency contacts for your child that this protocol is mandatory.
Worthington Girl Scouts
Worthington Girl Scouts are going to be hosting a recruitment event at the shelter house at Wilson Hill Elementary school on Friday, October 18th, at 3:00 pm.

Former Eagles Demonstrate Leadership
Three Evening Street graduates are captains of the Thomas Worthington High School soccer team, Jonas Brofford, Paxton Bohnert & Jack Suttle.
