Want to be part of our GVS morning?
Every morning at GVS classes watch a morning announcement video. These good morning videos are sometimes created by GVS adults and sometimes by students. They are less than 5 minutes and generally include:
- good morning & well wishes for the day
- happy birthday to ____
- a piece of learning, a joke, a tidbit of information...
Would your family like to participate by creating a good morning announcement for GVS?
There is a sign up at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C45AFA82FA3FF2-53156721-good.
Once you sign up, I will try to remember to email you who to wish a happy birthday to. If I forget, please email me!
Created videos can be sent to Mrs. McFarland (kmcfarland@gvshawks.org).
A reminder that all video content needs to be school appropriate (including no politics or religion). If we question the appropriateness of content, we will not share the video.
GVS Food Drive
GVS is participating in a drive to help supply the Grantham Village Food Pantry with supplies and food. To ensure a variety of items, each grade level is assigned a different category. Donations can be dropped off in Mrs. Carey's office and will be collected on Wednesday, December 18th.
For ideas of what to get, please visit this link. Thank you for your generosity!

Yikes! Lice!
Just the mention of the word makes people start
scratching their heads. While lice are a menace and
a nuisance, they aren’t life threatening. Here is a link to the
CDC guidelines we follow at school.
Key points:
Head lice are parasitic insects that usually live on your scalp.
Symptoms include itching, tickling, or sores on your scalp.
Both prescription and over-the-counter medications treat head lice infestations.
Reminder CDC's guidance has not changed—students with head lice infestation do not need to go home early from school. They can go home at the end of the day, be treated, and return to class after beginning appropriate treatment. Nits may stay in hair after treatment, but successful treatment will kill crawling lice. Remember, sharing is NOT caring when it comes to lice!

Morphology
Morphology is the study of the internal structure of words. The term morphology is Greek and is a makeup of morph- meaning 'shape, form', and -ology which means 'the study of something.’
Why is Morphology important?
Morphology is important because it allows us to understand the structure of words by breaking them down into their basic meaning units (morphemes), which helps us decode unfamiliar words, expand vocabulary, improve spelling, and ultimately enhance reading comprehension by inferring meaning from word parts like prefixes, suffixes, and roots; essentially, it provides a key to unlocking the meaning of complex words by analyzing their components.

Attention to those in after-school activities
We are happy to have after-school sports and activities at our school, and glad your children enjoy them.
However, please remind them that it is inappropriate for them to touch any equipment or items that do not belong to them, particularly in the gymnasium, cafeteria, and library.
We also want to deter critters, so please talk to them about eating only while in the cafeteria when on the premises. Please and thank you!

Can Tabs for David’s House
The Grantham Village School third grade class is collecting can tabs for David's House. Please send them in whenever you can. We have collected about 1,400 pounds since we began 20 plus years ago! We drop them off at David's House, where a volunteer brings them to a recycling facility for cash. The money is used to help defray operating expenses. Last year we collected 107 pounds! Let’s see if we can collect over 100 pounds again this school year.
Click on the David’s House link to learn more about this community treasure.
Thank you for your support!
