February 13, 2025
This week, we are excited to spotlight some of our amazing students who have been recognized for their exemplary character. Our Empathy Award winners have been nominated by their teachers, who carefully observe students who consistently demonstrate these important qualities.
We are proud to share our Empathy Award winners for this month, and we encourage you to celebrate their accomplishments with us. As we move into February, we will be focusing on the character trait of honesty. Teachers will be on the lookout for students who display this trait in their actions and interactions, and we look forward to recognizing their efforts.
Our Literacy Night for first grade families is a little less than a month away on Thursday, March 6, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This evening is designed to celebrate the joy of reading and the importance of literacy at a young age.
Parents will have the opportunity to hear about the vital role reading plays in a child’s development, while students can come dressed in their favorite pajamas to enjoy a night of s’mores, stories, games, and a book exchange. To participate in the book exchange, please bring one or two gently used books. Families must attend together—children may not attend without a parent or guardian present.
No RSVP is required for this event, so all first grade families feel free to come join the fun and celebration of literacy.
We wanted to take a moment to inform you that this coming Saturday, February 15, is National School Resource Officer (SRO) Appreciation Day. At PCK, we are incredibly grateful for the dedication and hard work of our very own Deputy Sandifer, who serves as our SRO. Deputy Sandifer plays an essential role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and the entire school community.
At PCK, we place a strong emphasis on student safety because we believe that a secure learning environment is foundational to academic success and personal growth. We are committed to creating a space where students can thrive, free from concerns about their physical or emotional safety. Deputy Sandifer is a direct example of those efforts, and we truly appreciate her contributions to making PCK a safe, positive, and nurturing place for all of our students.
If you happen to see her while at PCK, please join us in thanking Deputy Sandifer for her dedication to our school community.
The RSVP deadline for our upcoming Community Feedback Session is fast approaching, on Friday, February 21. The session will be held on Wednesday, February 26, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the PCK Events Center.
This session will focus on gathering input regarding our Strategic Plan. This plan will serve as the framework designed to steer the future success of PCK. The plan revolves around four key pillars: staff retention, academics, community building, and finance. These areas are integral to PCK’s accomplishments and will continue to serve as the foundation for future growth. If you have experience or strong perspectives in any of these areas, we strongly encourage you to RSVP and participate.
We invite all members of our community to attend and contribute their insights. Your feedback will play a crucial role in identifying its strengths, and addressing opportunities for improvement. The perspectives shared will have an immediate impact on PCK’s trajectory.
We are excited to share that our Valentine’s Day parties were a great success. These parties wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support of our classroom coordinators, volunteers, and staff. On such a busy day, everyone truly stepped up to make these celebrations a reality, and we are incredibly grateful for your contributions.
These parties provide a fantastic opportunity for our students to come together, build friendships, and strengthen the sense of community within our school. Our volunteers play a key role in making this possible, and we truly appreciate the time and effort you dedicate to supporting these events.
Thank you again for making this Valentine’s Day so special for our PCK families.
This Monday, our Kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day of school. To commemorate this special occasion, our students dressed up as seniors, reflecting on how much they’ve grown and learned throughout the year.
The 100th day is a significant milestone for our Kindergarteners, as it highlights their incredible progress and achievements in the first part of the school year. Congratulations to our Kindergarten students for reaching this exciting milestone.
We would like to inform our families that the Late Testing Lab will be cancelled on February 19. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Students who normally attend the Late Testing Lab can be picked up at their usual carpool times on this day.
Our health room staff would like to remind our families of PCK's policy regarding students who are unwell. If a child experiences vomiting or a fever of 100 degrees or more, they must stay home for at least 24 hours after their symptoms subside. For example, if a student is sent home from school at 12:00 p.m. with a fever, they may not return until 12:00 p.m. the following day.
If a child returns to school before the 24-hour period has passed, parents will be contacted and asked to pick up their child immediately. The child will be isolated from others and removed from the classroom until they can be picked up.
This policy is crucial in helping to prevent the spread of illness within our school community.
Additionally, below you can access our annual PCK Immunization Letter, which includes data on the immunization rates of PCK students.
If you have yet to submit your student’s eighth-grade portrait, please note the deadline is rapidly approaching next week on Friday, February 21. The PCK Intent to Return Form for the 2025-26 school year is still available. This form is for families who know they will not be returning or those still considering a change in schools.
Please note that submitting this form does not officially withdraw your child from PCK. If you later decide to remain, it will not affect your child’s enrollment. The form helps our enrollment team assess potential openings for the upcoming year and manage waitlists accordingly.
Eighth-grade families transitioning to high school do not need to complete this form.
Our next Coffee With the Director event is coming up on Tuesday, February 18 at 8:30 a.m. This event will be entirely virtual, allowing families who cannot attend in person the opportunity to join us and speak directly with Dr. Weyman.
To participate, please complete the RSVP form below. A virtual meeting link will be sent out the day of the event to all those who complete this RSVP. We look forward to connecting with you again and continuing our work together to support our students and community.
On behalf of the PCK PTO, we would like to sincerely thank the incredible volunteers who helped make the Father-Daughter event a success. Your dedication and support are essential to making these events possible, and we truly couldn’t do it without you. We deeply appreciate your time, effort, and commitment. Thank you for all that you do!
And a very special thank you to Shelby Varra of Perfect Blend Coffee shop for serving up some speciality coffees for our PCK dads in attendance.
We would like to further thank the PCK Music department, Ms. Garbett in the Science room, our PCK lunch team, and Champions for accommodating us within their space to hold such a special event.
Due to PCK’s 90-minute delay on Wednesday, February 12, the SAC meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 19.
As always, if you have any questions about the SAC or would like to raise any topics at the meeting, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at SAC@ckcs.net.
This week, we are excited to shine our volunteer spotlight on Stephanie Clarke for her outstanding contributions to our school community. Stephanie has consistently gone above and beyond in assisting our front office team with decorating throughout the year, ensuring that our space is welcoming and festive for all who visit.
As one of the most visited areas in our school, the front office plays a key role in creating a positive first impression for students, staff, and families. During the holidays and throughout the seasons, Stephanie’s thoughtful and creative decorations help foster a warm, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere—achieving our goal of making everyone feel at ease when they step through our doors.
Thank you, Stephanie, for all you do.
