Education Director's Newsletter

Welcome parents and students to our very first newsletter! I am so happy that we will be able to meet one another soon. In the meantime we are working hard at creating informational PowerPoint presentations for you to access through our website. I know you are anxious to meet our staff, so until we can introduce you in person, you can go to our website beginning next week and view our teacher bios. I know you all have so many questions and being unable to hold parent meetings to get the answers has been very frustrating; thankfully that is about to change...

We are right on track for our Sept. 8th opening! Our school site has been undergoing daily changes. Our first floor is framed and the exterior walls are up, with the second floor going up over the next two weeks. Currently, we are busy purchasing our classroom furniture, technology, curriculum, classroom supplies, and playground equipment! Every time I visit the school, I can picture all of our students inside this amazing school!

We will be celebrating Friday August 28 from 6:00-7:30 at our school site! Our Cornerstone Committee is meeting this week and will be firming up plans and gathering up items needed to make this evening a fun-filled family event. Plans so far include a BBQ/potluck, family games, rock painting for the kids (these will be placed in the dry creek at our entrance), and of course a tour of our school!

With COVID 19 creating a new normal for all of us, I'm sure many of you have questions about what the start of the school year may look like. While we are hoping for a normal school year, with all of our students collaborating and learning within our brand new walls, we are building contingency plans should the governor decide it isn't safe. After all, your child's well-being is of utmost importance. Keep in mind that whether we are faced with social distancing within our walls, rolling days, or even on-line learning, we WILL be ready! Our teachers are already looking at ways to provide your child with an expeditionary learning experience whether they are at school or at home learning on-line with us (we have some amazing ideas for interactive learning no matter what the learning platform may be). Regardless of the learning location we are planning on outdoor learning opportunities. We will continue to provide monthly updates.

YAY! We are finally able to have Parent 101's. These will be held during the first 2 weeks of June and will be arranged by grade level in order to keep the number of participants within compliance. We have had many questions regarding school dress code. Students will be required to wear T-shirts, Polos, or Hoodies embroidered or screen printed with our school logo (the compass). Shirts will be available for purchase from Coeur Promotions and you may purchase directly from their website.

• We are working with Coeur Promotions to provide your students with low cost, high quality T-shirts. These will cost approx. $5.00 for T's and $15.00 for embroidered polos.

• It is required that students wear Expeditionary Gear (cargo pants, shorts), or Ponte leggings found at the Children's Place uniforms or similar in the following colors: khaki, navy, black. Jeans are NOT allowed.
  
• Girls may wear skirts in these colors; however black or navy leggings must be worn underneath.
• Students should wear tennis shoes or hiking boots. Sturdy sandals with a back may be worn; however they shall not be allowed on the hiking trails or during expeditionary work (a change of shoes must be brought to school).

We will be putting together a uniform policy guide to make your back to school shopping easier.

We are working on developing an after school program for our students. Please click on the link below to complete a questionnaire regarding your need for after school child care. This will enable us to determine the need for after school care and finalize our program.
