The Wildcat Week Ahead
5/20 - 5/24
Happy Sunny Sunday, GIS Families!
As we approach the end of the school year, our school follows many of the same trends nationwide; we see an increase in minor behaviors. It's common for behavior to worsen during the final few weeks of the school year. Kids sense summer break approaching and begin to feel like they have outgrown their grade level. They grow restless and excitable. They become bolder, testing the boundaries to see if they're as firm as they once were. We navigate these behaviors by conferencing with the student, hearing their perspective, discussing impact, and then making a plan. When appropriate, there is a loss of privileges and communication at home.
What is essential for families to know is that we look into the whole event and talk with all the students involved before deciding to communicate at home. Sometimes, when students are worried about getting in trouble, they share information that isn't true with staff, and we do our best to figure out what happened.
Please remind kids to find an adult if something has happened.
Our first-ever bike bus was a huge success, and we're hosting another bike bus this Friday, May 24th. It will start at 7 AM and follow the same route. If you pick up the bike bus at the fire station, be ready to roll around 7:35-40. As before, kids in K-2 need an adult.
We have many events coming up, so please mark your calendars! The dates are below.
As always, my door and inbox are always open,
Mrs. H

Out on the Links With 6th Grade
From Mr. Foster
The sixth graders have just completed a golf unit in physical education. Our golf unit concluded with a field trip to the Alburgh Golf Links. Joined by a few parents and family members, the Sixth Grade refined their driving, chipping, and putting skills. The weather was beautiful, and the experience was exceptional. Thank you to the Alburgh Links for letting us enjoy this lifelong activity.

Help Us Fill a Dump Truck (a small one!)
Island Excavating is parking a smaller dump truck in the school parking lot on May 28 and 29 for us to collect bottles and cans in! Please save your returnables in garbage bags to donate on those days. We are looking into installing a permanent bottle return at GIS. We will keep you updated on that.

Parent Resources
Did you know? The state of Vermont helps cover child care costs. Starting on April 7, more families will qualify for tuition assistance based on family size and income. For example, a family of four making $124,800 a year can get help paying for programs. You can find out more about eligibility requirements online. To apply, contact your local Community Child Care Support Agency.
