WIDA Screener: An assessment to help identify English learners
WIDA Screener is an English language proficiency assessment given to new students in grades K–12 to help educators identify whether they are English learners (ELs). It is a flexible, on-demand assessment that can be administered at any time during the school year. WIDA Screener is available in two formats – online (U.S. only) and paper (U.S. and International).
Key Features of WIDA Screener
Anchored in the WIDA English Language Development Standards
Assesses each of the four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing
Reports proficiency level scores for each language domain and for three composite scores: Oral Language, Literacy and Overall; score reports are produced at the individual student level only (not school, district or state)
The Screener Online test platform automatically scores the Listening and Reading domains during administration. A trained local rater scores the Speaking and Writing domains.
Screener Paper is scored locally by trained raters. Listening and Speaking domains are media-delivered.
Screener for Kindergarten is scored locally by the test administrator.
If a student is identified as an EL, proficiency level scores from WIDA Screener can be used by educators to compare across ELs and to plan differentiated levels of support for each child.
Evaluador WIDA
Building Healthy Habits
Tips from Nurse Shelby
With October officially marking the start of flu season I thought now would be a great time to review some tips for staying healthy this flu season!
One of the best ways you can be proactive against getting the flu is by getting a flu shot each year if you are able. The flu shot helps your body build immunity to the current strain of influenza “the flu”, which can prevent you from getting sick. If you do still get sick, the duration and intensity of the illness are often diminished if you are vaccinated.
Another great tip is to wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer often. Frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of germs that can make you sick. As a rule, you should always wash your hands after using the restroom, before eating or drinking, and when your hands are visibly soiled. It is also important to regularly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door knobs, faucets, bathrooms, and food prep areas.
To help prevent the spread of illness you should avoid being around others who are sick whenever possible. If you become sick it’s important to stay home until you are feeling better to prevent spreading the illness to others. Taking time to rest and taking in plenty of fluids can help you recover sooner too! Popsicles, broth-based soups, and warm drinks can be great ways to get in extra fluids when you aren’t feeling well. It is also a good practice to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze, then follow up with a hand sanitizer to help minimize spreading germs to others.
Finally, it is important to take care of yourself. It is often underestimated how important simple habits such as getting good quality sleep, eating well, staying hydrated, managing stressors, and staying physically active are for good health. When we take care of ourselves it helps our immune system stay healthy, so it can do its job of keeping us from getting sick.

A little about myself - my name is JR Roesner and this is my 4th season coaching the Junior
High wrestling team. I have been involved in wrestling for many years and I coached the youth
program at Southridge for 8 years. I have a love of wrestling and want to see Forest Park’s
program grow. I live just outside Ferdinand with my wife Charlotte and my 2 sons Clayton and
Beau.
Wrestling is a great sport that helps develop qualities not only for other sports but life itself.
Wrestling will make you a better athlete. If you play football you should 100% be wrestling.
Here are some other reasons to wrestle:
1. Wrestling develops athleticism.
2. Anyone can wrestle and succeed, no matter how big or small.
3. Wrestling develops mental toughness.
4. Wrestling develops discipline.
5. Wrestling is fun.
6. Wrestling teaches a strong work ethic, sacrifice, respect and how to deal with adversity.
7. Wrestling makes you stronger and more balanced.
8. Wrestling builds footwork and speed.
9. Wrestling brings kids together and builds a strong camaraderie.
10. Wrestling is good for self defense.
11. Wrestling builds self-confidence.
12. Wrestling is a guarantee that you’ll be in the best shape of your life.
“Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy.” - Dan Gable
“I would have all my offensive linemen wrestle if I could.” - John Madden
“I draft wrestlers because they are tough, I’ve never had a problem with a wrestler.” - Joe Gibbs
“Wrestlers have so many great qualities that athletes need to have.” - Bob Stoops
