FIELD DAY
First-grade students at Heights had a blast participating in relay and parachute games during Field Day on Monday, May 20, 2024. The day was organized by the Heights Physical Education Department.
KINDERGARTEN MINI MARATHON
EAST HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
EAST HILLS STUDENTS VISIT CONKLIN FARMHOUSE AND MUSEUM
Fourth-graders at East Hill had the opportunity to visit the Conklin Farmhouse and Museum where they got a taste of colonial life. The field trip coincides with the end of a unit on Colonial America, which is part of the fourth-grade curriculum.
ART AWARDS FOR EAST HILLS STUDENTS
Two students from East Hills School placed in the 2024 Northwell Erase the Stigma Creative Art Contest in the Elementary School Category. Ivan Wu won first place and Charlotte Lubin won a 3rd place award. Both students are invited to the Erase the Stigma Awards Ceremony, to be held June 1, 2024, where their work will be showcased.
East Hills Poetry Winners
Ms. Mary Tripp's fourth-grade students at East Hills Elementary School created poems and won a poetry contest with Creative Communications. Their poems will be published in a nationwide poetry book this summer.
ABC Countdown Extravaganza!
East Hills kicked off its summer countdown on May 16th. Each day of the ABC Countdown Extravaganza is themed; students and staff always have a blast participating!
HARBOR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
RECORDER CONCERT
Harbor Hill Elementary School third-graders put on a recorder concert performance for parents in the gym on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
FIFTH GRADERS GO TO WORK AT COMMERCE PLAZA
Every year, the fifth graders at Harbor Hill take on the role of professional worker for a day at Commerce Plaza in Levittown. Students are placed in groups to work at various businesses within a mock town, and each individual student is assigned a job within that business.
Jobs include physician, attorney, bank teller, newspaper editor, waiter, mail courier, and more. Prior to the trip, the fifth graders prepare to go to work by learning about financial literacy. They learn how to write and deposit checks; how to determine total expense costs for their business; and how to advertise their business in the mock townās local newspaper.
CIRCUS CIRCUS!
Fourth-grade students at Harbor Hill Elementary School learned a variety of clever circus tricks like stilt walking, plate-spinning, juggling, and hula-hooping during a week-long workshop focused on coordination, timing, and team building. On Friday, May 17, 2024, they put on two circus showsā an afternoon performance for the third grade, and an evening show for their families.
HARBOR HILL STUDENTS LEARN TO WEATHER A STORM
Third-graders in Ms. Meghan Plantās science class at Harbor Hill took on a STEAM challenge to create hurricane-proof houses as the finale to their weather unit. Working in teams, students used four sheets of paper, four straws, a meter of tape, and a paper plate to design houses with four walls, two windows, and a door. Their designs were tested for strength and durability, using a leaf blower and spray bottle to simulate hurricane conditions. The project was a hit, with every student enjoying the hands-on experience and feeling prepared to weather any storm!

RMS EARNS GOLD AT NYSSMA MAJORS
The Roslyn Middle School String Ensemble earned a prestigious gold ranking in the 2024 New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Majors.
Forty-two students performed (under the direction of Orchestra Director Ms. Marichelle Weill) for an esteemed panel of adjudicators on May 20th, playing selections from their winter and spring concerts. The ensemble was evaluated on various criteria such as intonation, rhythm, dynamics, and overall musicianship. Achieving a gold ranking signifies an outstanding level of performance and is a testament to the ensemble's excellence.
RMS EARNS NO PLACE FOR HATE BANNER
Roslyn Middle School has been designated as a Gold Star No Place for Hate School for the 2023-24 School Year. The school will be recognized by the Anti-Defamation League at a ceremony in New York City and sent a banner to display inside the building. The No Place for Hate program is designed to create inclusive school communities by promoting unity and respect, and empowering schools to reduce bullying, name-calling and other expressions of bias.
SIXTH GRADER WINS HONORABLE MENTION IN POETRY CONTEST
Oorja Singh, a sixth-grade student at Roslyn Middle School, received an Honorable Mention for her poem in the Walt Whitman Poetry Contest. Oorja's poem "Towards the Blazing Sun" captured the attention of the judges for its lyrical beauty and emotional resonance.
4TH ANNUAL DOOR DECORATING CONTEST
First Place went to Jukebox, Second Place to Pac-Man, and Third Place to Rocky. Congratulations to all the winners!
RMS TRIP TO ADVENTURELAND
Roslyn Middle School 8th grade students enjoyed a trip to Adventureland on Friday, May 17th. The end-of-year trip was sponsored by the PFA.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ART SHOW
The Roslyn Middle School Art Show was on display at The Gallery at the Bryant Library from April 11- May 19, 2024. An opening reception was held on May 2nd, which included refreshments and live performances by the RMS Chamber Group.
ROSLYN HIGH SCHOOL
LONG ISLAND MATH FAIR
On April 5, 2024, 70 Roslyn students (40 RHS and 30 RMS) presented at the Long Island Math Fair (LIMF) at Hofstra University. This year, 466 students attended, representing 26 school districts across Long Island. Each year, the Math Fair is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in mathematics to explore topics outside the realm of the traditional required mathematics courses.
NAMES, NOT NUMBERS DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE AT RHS
On May 1, 2024, at 7pm, Roslyn High School hosted the premiere screening of Names, Not NumbersĀ®: A Movie in the Making for an audience of parents, students, community members, Roslyn School District administrators, faculty, and staff, and the five Holocaust survivors who participated in the film, along with their families. The project was chosen to engage students in a transformative journey of learning and empathy while supporting the New York State Social Studies Standards.
RHS CODE CLUB MEMBERS HOST SUCCESSFUL HACKATHON
On Saturday, March 2, 2024, members of the Roslyn High School Code Club hosted the 2024 Overload Hackathon. Sixty students from multiple school districts competed to make the best possible projects they could code within a 9 AM - 5 PM time frame.
SENIOR DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS
On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Roslyn High School hosted the 2024 Senior Departmental Awards to celebrate the academic accomplishments of the senior class.
TWO RHS STUDENTS PLACE 2ND IN NATIONAL RESEARCH COMPETITION
Roslyn High School senior Cayden Shen and sophomore Tessla Chan were among five Long Island students who qualified to attend the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (held in Albuquerque, NM, May 1-4) and the only ones to win awards at the national level. Cayden won 2nd Place in the Physical Science oral presentations, which came with an $8000 prize, and Tessla won 2nd Place in the Math and Computer Sciences poster presentations.
FRESHMEN SWEEP NYS ECYBERMISSION AWARDS
Roslyn 9th grade students won all three New York State awards in the 2023-24 eCybermission competition. The team of Orla Gajwani, Gefen Portnoy, and Dylan Sakaria won first place; Kaylin Cho, Amanda Li, and Carina Dai took second place; and Emilee Youn and Vivian Lin were awarded Honorable Mention.
ROSLYN STUDENTS GET "WHITE HOUSE EXPERIENCE"
Students in Ms. Kristy Faulkner's Freshman Humanities Honors class had the opportunity to go to Long Island University's Roosevelt House to immerse themselves in the "White House Experience." Students engaged in situation room scenarios in which they all took on important cabinet positions, including president, and made tough decisions about China and Tik Tok, as well as a Cold War-era crisis in Grenada. Additionally, they visited the museum and an Oval Office replica, one of four in the country.
RHS STUDENT PLACES AT ISEF
Roslyn High School Sophomore Tessla Chan won 4th Place at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the category of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Tessla spent a week at ISEF in Los Angeles where she competed, met students from all over the world, networked with professionals in her field, and presented in a public session.
