Irvin Informer
Irvin Elementary - February 22
What a week! We got to celebrate our awesome Teacher of the Year, Coach Jenkins, at the board meeting Tuesday Night. We had Cliburn in the Classroom come this week. We also had a step team from Cedar Hill ISD come do a presentation for our students for Black History Month. We also got to see everyone come together to support each other at arrival and dismissal during the incredibly cold weather. Irvin students, staff, and parents are the best!
Tuesday March 4th is our final Strong Fathers event for this school year. It is Read Across America week that week and we will host a Reading Night. Our Book Fair will also be open that evening. We hope to see you all there. As a reminder, if a dad is unavailable to attend, any guest is welcome to attend with their child. We will have some fun dress up days that week. You can find information about that below.
I sent out a text message earlier this month to request that our families do not park in the baseball parking lot for their students to walk to them. When our families are parked in those spots, they are taking students parking spaces. MHS students move their vehicles over to the fields for their practices that start in the afternoon. Let's work together to help MHS students have access to their parking lot when they need it. Please refrain from parking in this parking lot.

MISD does not allow students to have cell phones in the classrooms during instruction. At Irvin students are required to keep their cell phones in their backpack turned off or on silent. If you need to contact your child, you will need to call the front office and they will get you in contact with your child.
HB 3 required parent notice on practicing safe firearm storage
All Texas school districts are required by law to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. House Bill 3, Section 19 added Section 37.222 to the Texas Education Code, which requires the Texas School Safety Center, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety, to provide information and resources to school districts for the purpose of disseminating the information to parents. The Texas DPS launched a Keep ‘Em Safe Texas website that provides safety resources, materials, and tips for practicing safe gun storage to prevent accidents and keep children safe. Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
