Electronic Communication Safety- Digital Footprint
It is important to talk with your children about safety when it comes to use of the internet, phone or other forms digital communication. A digital footprint is the trail of information you leave behind when you use the internet, phone, etc. Depending on your family values, priorities, ages, life stages, school, family expectations and other factors, you’ll want to work with your children to help them set and keep boundaries for protection. Since deleting things digitally does not completely remove your footprint, speaking with your children about the impact that their digital communication can have on them or others is even more important now than ever. AI (Artificial Intelligence) continues to grow and expand in it capabilities. Students and adults need to use more caution now more than ever before to protect themselves from cyber-predators, criminals, cyber-bullying, and other concerning scenarios.
At school we talk about how to be safe and taking precautions regularly. We had our friends from Ocean County Prosecutors Office here to help teach students how to be safe as well. We will continue to build in lessons for our students here at school.
We have seen a recent rise in student conflicts/issues connected to group chats, texts, computers, internet, etc inside and outside of school. We are increasing our conversations and lessons with students to help address this. We need your continued partnership and support to help keep our kids safe and to help avoid conflicts.
Here is a lesson you can use to start or continue the conversation with your child and have a family plan in place for better boundaries and safety. Digital Footprint and Imprint Lesson

Every Day Matters- Attendance
Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. This relationship between attendance and achievement may appear early in a child's school career. A recent study looking at young children found that absenteeism in kindergarten was associated with negative first grade outcomes such as greater absenteeism in subsequent years and lower achievement in reading, math, and general knowledge
Chronic Absenteeism is defined by the U.S. Department of Education as missing 15 days or more a year. If your child reaches 18 or more absences, it then has to be reported to the State of New Jersey for our School Performance Reports.
