Spring has arrived! We're thrilled to honor the accomplishments of our students in SUHSD's Career Technical Education programs. Across 13 sectors, our students have engaged in hands-on projects mirroring industry practices. We proudly highlight our exceptional CTE Students of the Quarter, whose dedication set the standard for others. This newsletter is filled with stories that embody our mission of "Learning by Doing." Let's celebrate the students and teachers that make our CTE courses exceptional.

Jasmin consistently arrives every day with a strong determination to learn. Her focus is evident in her excellent grades, and she has emerged as a leader within her group. Leading by example, she is well-liked and displays respect towards her peers. Importantly, she guides others towards success, steering clear of distractions. Jasmin's dedication to her future aspirations and her willingness to put in the necessary effort serve as a commendable example for her peers. There is confidence that Jasmin will achieve her goals and excel in her future endeavors.

Sage Olivares is an amazing student, not only does she thrive academically but she recently started her own pastries business. She has combined what she has learned in her culinary class with her interest in business and started her own enterprise. For Ms. Botello, witnessing a student utilize the resources provided signifies a job well done and prompts a sense of pride in such achievements. Sage is also very compassionate, hard worker, determined, well mannered and responsible.

Alejandra Flores-Olivera brought home the Gold for Mission Trails ROP and Everett Alvarez High School in her SkillsUSA Dental Assisting regional competition. Alejandra has a great attitude and radiates optimism and positivity. Alejandra will attend Monterey Peninsula College after graduating high school and will then transfer to Cabrillo College's Dental Hygiene program. Bilingual, bicultural, gentle, humble, gracious, and kind, Alejandra is destined for success.

Alan Zendejas-Cruz has shown exceptional growth and dedication in the Graphic Design Pathway. Alan's innate artistic talent, attention to detail, and innovative approach are highlighted, particularly in projects like his self-portrait. Additionally, his collaborative nature, willingness to assist peers, and commitment to excellence, both academically and personally, are commended. Alan's proficiency in technology and his leadership qualities are also admirable.

Jasmine exemplifies exceptional dedication and a strong work ethic, consistently going above and beyond in her endeavors. Her collaborative nature and positive attitude make her a valuable asset in any team setting. She possesses a remarkable ability to empathize with others, ensuring that everyone feels included and valued. This past month Jasmine helped coordinate and took on a leadership role during the 6th grade field trip at MTROP. She is also busy job shadowing within an 8th-grade ELD class and a 5th-grade classroom where she adeptly supports both teachers and students alike.

Dulce Sanchez is an intelligent, reliable, and dedicated student who consistently arrives to class with enthusiasm and a bright smile, eager to absorb knowledge. She is determined to pursue further education in healthcare at a four-year college with the goal of becoming a cardiologist. Dulce excels academically in her Medical Assisting class, consistently demonstrating a readiness to learn and regularly offering assistance to her classmates.

Jason Zafra has has put in tremendous effort to excel in all his his classes. It's clear that he is determined to pursue further training after graduation, showing a strong commitment to his academic and professional growth. Jason's proactive approach to self-improvement is evident in his constant quest for personal development. His reliability and sense of responsibility are admirable traits that will lead to great success.

EMT and Fire Program students recently staged a mass casualty event, applying theoretical knowledge to a real-life scenario. They swiftly assessed and triaged patients, delivering crucial medical care under pressure. These types of scenarios help students learn the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, clear communication and quick decision-making. This hands-on experience offered invaluable insights, enhancing students readiness for the complexities of any emergency response career.

Jasmin "Aliza" Saldana, a senior in Ms. Jennifer Ghastin's Graphic Design course at North Salinas High School, secured first place in the Rainbow Connection Logo Design contest. This competition open to all Monterey County residents, aimed to create a new logo that accurately reflects the organization's values. The contest was part of a working collaboration between Monterey County Behavior Health, The Epicenter of Monterey, Partners 4 Peace and Harmony at Home. A spokesperson expressed, "Alize's design eloquently embodies our dedication to equality, inclusion, and empowering LGBTQ+ youth voices." In recognition of her accomplishment, Jasmin received a brand-new MacBook as a prize.

Under the supervision of Mr. Scott Rose, students in Everett Alvarez High School's Cinema Arts and Production program have the chance to earn articulated college credits recognized by Hartnell Community College. These students are currently preparing to use a Blackmagic Cinema 6KPro camera, complete with a super telephoto lens, to film and livestream this year's graduation ceremony.

NSHS students in Ms. Rosana Diaz's Restaurant Careers classes recently traveled to Rancho Cielo's Drummond Culinary Academy. There, students got to learn about a range of vocational opportunities at Rancho Cielo. They heard from Executive Chef Estevan Jimenez on how his students are prepared to serve contemporary California Cuisine that speaks to the bounty and culture of the Salinas Valley and the students themselves. After the tour, many students are now contemplating the prospect of enrolling in a future in the Culinary Arts.

During CTE Month, MTROP opened its doors to sophomores and juniors from all SUHSD high schools, offering insightful tours of its classes. Current SHS students at MTROP served as guides, showcasing daily activities and expressing their enthusiasm for the CTE courses offered by the program. These tours aimed to inspire students by providing a firsthand look at the practical skills and real-world applications offered by MTROP's programs.

Mr. Joseph Frausto's students became the first in the state of California to earn the NC3 Hydraulic Certification this past month. This accomplishment placed these students among the top four high schools nationwide, and these students join a select group of 1600 schools across the nation to achieve this certification. Along with this certification, students have been diligently studying the various aspects involved in operating and controlling industrial vehicles, gaining practical, hands-on experience.

After completing a biochemical tests, Medical Assisting students seamlessly transitioned to lab procedures, emphasizing precision and attention to detail. With a strong grasp of techniques and protocols, they recorded and analyzed results meticulously, ensuring accuracy. Each step, from collection to interpretation, reflected their commitment to scientific standards and healthcare excellence. Embracing challenges with enthusiasm, they honed skills and expanded their knowledge, showcasing dedication to vital diagnostic procedures.

Alisal High School's Robotics team was thrilled to travel to the annual Saratoga Falcons Robotics Tournament. The theme for this year's competition, titled "Over Under," challenged teams to construct robots capable of maneuvering and scoring acorn-shaped "triballs" into designated goals. In the final 10 seconds of each match, teams had the opportunity to elevate their robots by clamping onto poles, earning additional points. The height at which a robot was successfully clamped directly correlated with the number of points awarded, offering teams a strategic advantage. The AHS EA VEX robotics team was one place away from qualifying for the semifinals.

Engineering Academy students from Alisal High School served as keynote presenters at the City of Salinas See Our Youth Summit. Their presentation covered a range of topics, including the motivations behind pursuing a STEM major, the reasons for choosing a STEM path, available STEM training and workshop opportunities for high school students, and demonstrations of current and past competition robots. Keynote student speakers included Jonathan Garcia, Ricardo Balcazar, Emiliano Maravillo-Reyes, Alonzo Cabrera, and Juan Parra-Avina.

Lorand Incze from Alisal High School and Jacob Jun from Rancho San Juan have been honored as Amazon Future Engineer Teacher Ambassadors. Following a rigorous selection process, Lorand and Jacob will be among 48 educators nationwide engaging in community outreach, implementing innovative teaching strategies for computer science, and sharing valuable insights. The program's primary goal is to improve access to Computer Science and STEM education for students, utilizing sponsored curriculums such as Code.org, Project STEM, and Bootup.

Sixteen Graphic Design Pathway students from North Salinas High qualified to go to the State SkillsUSA competition. The community service group is raising awareness around the national fentanyl crisis! The team is trained in training people on how and when to use Narcan and why everyone should carry it. Drug overdose is the he number one cause of death in 18-45 year old people. Narcan saves lives. In the picture the team is bringing cases of Narcan back to North High to train their peers.

Mrs. Wren was honored during the Monterey Bay Sectional Project FFA Competition Banquet as one of Monterey Bay Section's Honorary members. Since her start at Rancho San Juan High School, Mrs. Wren has been a steadfast supporter of FFA and instrumental in the program's success. Without her contributions, RSJHS FFA wouldn't have achieved the level of success it enjoys today.

NSHS FFA members, including Andrea, Lily, Lexi, Allen, Byron, Maritza, Karen, Diego, Oscar, and Mattie, performed with distinction at the Monterey Bay Section FFA competition. Their hard work and dedication were evident as they gave their all during the event. The NSHS team achieved great success:

At the Project Completion Banquet, four EAHS students were acknowledged for their diligent efforts in their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project. Also, a big shout out to Elliot Porcello who will be a California FFA state Committee Chair for the whole FFA association. The EAHS team achieved great success:

In February, four students from NSHS FFA participated in the Project Competition. FFA members from across Monterey County showcased their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. All four of the students presented their SVF swine projects during the competition. Andrea secured the Gold, while Brusley, Lexi, and Abigail earned Silver in their respective divisions. These exceptional students represent the excellence of North High and are poised to become future leaders in Salinas. Their next venture is the Salinas Valley Fair!

Congratulations to Liam Roberts and Riley Whisler on qualifying for the 96th California State FFA Leadership Conference. Riley is set to participate in the Dairy Production Proficiency category as part of her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project at Schoch Dairy. Liam is slated to compete in the AGRISCIENCE category focusing on Power Structural and Technical Systems.
