Hello McPherson Families,
Just a friendly reminder that McPherson registration is this Wednesday, August 14. Middle school students will take their school picture and pick up their textbooks at registration so be sure to come camera ready!

Back to School Street Safety Workshops
We are pleased to announce that, in partnership with the Orange Police Department, the District held its first set of workshops on best practices and tips for safe travel to and from school for the new school year. The next set of workshops, offered in both English and Spanish, will be held at the District Office on August 29 at 5 p.m. Recordings are available on the District website for those who cannot attend in person.
These workshops are part of Orange Unified’s collaborative efforts with the Orange Police Department and the City of Orange to help ensure the safety of students and other pedestrians following Orange City Council’s June 2024 decision not to provide crossing guard services to OUSD schools in the city of Orange due to budget shortfalls.
While the absence of crossing guards in the city of Orange poses a challenge, the combined efforts of parents, schools, and the community can help maintain pedestrian safety, especially during school hours. We ask our community members to remain diligent, drive safely, and observe the speed limits around our schools. The Orange Police Department remains committed to providing traffic safety and enforcement at and around our school campuses, and Orange Unified staff is working with the City of Orange to explore crosswalk visibility enhancements to high-traffic intersections. EARTH DAY SHIRTS ON SALE
Earth Day Shirts (that were sold last year) will be available for sale at Registration on August 14. There are four designs and there are sizes from Youth Small to Adult XL. First come first serve, as there is a limited supply. Earth Day Shirts can be worn as a spirit shirt every Friday.
McPherson Registration Procedures
The new school year is almost here. Required forms for McPherson Magnet School registration will all be completed online.
All McPherson parents must register for McPherson and complete their “Data Confirmation” on Parent Portal when the window opens on August 1st. If “Data Confirmation” is not completed for McPherson before school starts, we will assume that you are not coming to McPherson and will move the next person on our lottery list. Currently, all students are pre-enrolled with OUSD, but not registered for McPherson. Every student must register. You must print out the required signature page at the end of the data confirmation process and bring it to Registration Day on August 14th. To access your signature page please go to your Parent Portal on AERIES. If you need help completing your “Data Confirmation” or any other assistance in registering, please call the McPherson office, and speak with Christina Cruz, at 714-628-4327, and she will be happy to assist you. Please register and complete “Data Confirmation”, so that we may be able to open up spots in our lottery if your child is not returning to McPherson. Middle School Students, 6th-8th MUST attend the registration event to have their picture taken, receive their ID Card, and pick up their textbooks from the library.

1. Turn in one Signature Page per student, signed by Parent and Student after reviewing the McPherson Handbook on McPherson's webpage. The Signature page may not be printable on your data confirmation, therefore, it is attached for you to print out and bring to registration.
2. Purchase Agenda (2nd through 8th grade) - $8.00 donation – CASH ONLY
3. Make a $10 technology/STEM software donation per student – CASH ONLY
4. Stop by the PTSA Table and sign up for $20 membership
5. PTSA Fun Friday shirts can be purchased for $15 at the PTSA table. If you purchase PTSA membership ($20) during registration, all shirts purchased will be ONLY $10. (T-Shirt savings will be offered at registration ONLY) Exact Cash preferred!

Picture Day for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on August 14, during registration. Middle School students will also pick up their ID cards after taking their picture and pick up their textbooks from the library.

McPherson Education Foundation Needs Your HELP!!
The McPherson Education Foundation has a wristband booth at the Orange International Street Fair from Friday, Aug 30 - Sunday, Sep 1. We are looking for volunteers to help staff the booth (your time will be credited to your volunteer hour requirement at McPherson Magnet). We are only asking for 3 hours of your time, which earns us about $100 in donations per volunteer. It’s a fun way to hang out and meet your fellow McPherson parents. You are also welcome to sign up and bring a friend with you (must be 21+). All volunteers will receive a free McPherson Spirit Shirt. Volunteers need to be 21+, but students are welcome to attend the street fair and support their adult family members. (Students may not be in the booth while parents are selling). All proceeds from the Orange International Street Fair Booth benefit current and future students at McPherson Magnet by supporting the STEM programs at the school.

MPherson Leadership – Will Be At the Street Fair – “Swiss Booth”
Come and support our leadership class Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Street Fair at the Orange Plaza on Glassell. Leadership will be selling Polish and Bratwurst sandwiches. The leadership is asking for your “tip” donations. Only tip profits go to McPherson Leadership class.

We have a lot of small projects that can be done by all members of the family - i.e…..painting, planting new bushes in the quad, refinishing benches, working in Earth Lab, working in the California garden, cleaning, and much more

McPherson Uniforms
McPherson Magnet School Uniforms are sold exclusively by Kustom Imprints. Polo shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, shorts, and skorts. Buy online at www.McPhersonUniforms.com and then pick up at Kustom Imprints office in Orange, CA. If you need to try on your uniform first for proper sizing, just visit their showroom at 1661 N. Glassell St. Orange, CA. At this time, they have all sizes available and a private fitting room. Se Habla Español.
DON’T WAIT! – Buying your school uniforms early in summer will be your best chance to get all the sizes and color options you need for school start on August 21st.
PE Uniforms - ORDER IN ADVANCE
All 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students will dress out for PE. The PE uniform order is attached. You can order and pay for the uniforms on registration day, August 14. PLEASE BE PREPARED AND HAVE ORDER FORM FILLED OUT WITH PAYMENT ATTACHED. If you have any questions, please e-mail Mr. Mitchell at mjmitch@orangeusd.org. Students will pick up their per-ordered and pre-paid uniforms when school starts.
Ice Cream Sales - Will Start After School on Monday, September 9
We will be selling ice cream beginning Monday, September 9. Ice Cream will be sold at the FRONT GATE ONLY, at 2:00 pm and at 2:55 pm. We have a new ice Cream Vendor, Andrades Fruit Filled Bars. Andrades has been making delicious, high-quality, fruit-filled ice bars and ice milk bars since the 1940's. Students will be able to choose from over 7 natural flavors of fruit-filled ice bars and milk bars, and they have the highest quality ingredients. Stop by and purchase some "Yummy" Ice Cream Bars for only $3,00 per bar, to help support students overnight trips in 6th through 8th grade.
