Big Things Going on in Fourth Grade...
Content Learning:
- Language Arts - Students are spending a few weeks analyzing and practicing how to best attack various story passages and questions in ways that will help them to successfully read and comprehend the material.
- Math - Students will begin working on addition and subtraction of fractions. They will be working to determine greatest common factors and least common multiples. They will also begin working on a measurement unit.
- Virginia Studies - Students have wrapped up learning about the difficulties Virginia faced during Reconstruction and will soon be focusing on historical issues during the 20th Century. Our SOL test is fast approaching. Please make sure students are spending time reviewing material from all units each night!
- Spanish - Soon students will be starting a project focusing on pollinators. They will develop writing skills by writing a fiction story that will be shared with classmates from younger grades.
Upcoming SOL Testing!!!
Our fourth graders will soon be undertaking this year's SOL tests. We are so excited for your children to have this opportunity to shine and to show all they know about being good readers, mathematicians, and historians! You can help support and prepare them from home by remembering these helpful hints for success...
- Well-prepared children test better so make sure they are reading for fun every day, completing their spiral math review work, and studying their Virginia Studies facts.
- Well-rested children test better so ensure that your child gets a good night's sleep on the night before each test.
- Well-nourished children test better so see that your child eats a good breakfast at home or here at school the morning of each test.
- Well-loved children test the best of all so support your child with a positive "You can do it - if you try your best!" message.
