Dear San Elijo Middle School Families,

Our school is incredibly grateful for your donations to our Fund the Nest Campaign! This was an excellent way to start our year with over $21,000 dollars raised! Our next big event will be our 20th Anniversary Showcase on October 10th from 4-6pm. This event is free and will be open to the whole community. Our goal is to welcome families on to our campus and see what our students are up to in many of their courses. Our ASB students will also be hosting games for students to play for a small fee (all money goes back to the ASB program which hosts our dances, etc.), our band program will be performing, and we are working with our community partners for a Dine Out opportunity that evening as well. We look forward to seeing you there.

• Wiffle ball sign-ups begin on Monday in the SEMS Circle during both lunches.
• You need 7 people to form a team. The tournament will begin on September 30th...let's play ball!!
• Bike Safety Class at 5:30pm in the PAC! Bring a parent, bike, and helmet with you.

Tuesday

• Counselors in 7th ELA classes for Erika's Lighthouse Presentation

Thursday

• Pizza Lunch at the Fountain with our Fund the Nest Homeroom Winners
• Cross Country Meet @ SEMS

Friday

• 6th Grade WEB Event at Lunch

Our counselors will be visiting 7th grade classrooms on September 24th to educate our youth using the program Erika's Lighthouse. Please read THIS LETTER with details.

The program goals include:

• Raising awareness of good mental health.

• Raising awareness of the signs of depression and risk and warning signs of suicide.

• Reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

• Encouraging help-seeking skills and, if necessary, additional support services.

If you must pick your child up early for a doctor's appointment, please notify us a day prior. We will then have a pass ready and your child will be at the front office when you arrive.

If you call the same day, we will ask you to check in at the front office first and a pass will be sent. This will increase your wait time for your child...especially if they are in PE.

SEMS 8th grade students: Our California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) Fall Membership Drive closes tomorrow, Monday, September 23 at 3 p.m. CJSF is an Honor Society for Middle School students.

Fall Membership is based on Spring semester grades. Use your June Report Card to complete the application. Membership is for one semester only, so you must apply to join CJSF again each semester. Use the QR code posted around campus OR connect to the application on SEMS homepage, in the News section, on the CJSF Membership tab. Students, log into your smusd.org account to access the form. Find your Report Card grades and citizenship marks in StudentVue, on your Documents tab. Be sure to submit your application by TOMORROW afternoon. DON’T be left out!

CJSF Membership requirements are included with the application. Information about CJSF and Honor Roll is posted on the Counseling Department webpage at https://sanelijomiddle.smusd.org/departments/counseling/cjsf_membership.

Order your Chromebook Insurance today! All the information is linked in below here. You will need to know your 'asset tag' in order to complete the process. This is the number underneath the blue bar code on the bottom of the Chromebook. This is what will tie that computer with your child's name. PLEASE CLICK THE DISTRICT WEB STORE TAB when purchasing insurance. The SEMS tab takes you to the Elementary site. We have requested a fix, but the company has not done it yet.

Homework Time

Homework Time began on Tuesday, September 3rd. It is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. in the library. This is a quiet space for students to work on assignments.
