IAMacomb Update
February 28, 2025
Spring is almost here...
There are always a lot of exciting things happening at the IAM. It is hard to believe we are preparing for the 14th annual commencement ceremony for the students in the Class of 2025. I recall the first graduation ceremony like it was yesterday; time passes quickly it seems.
Scheduling for 2025-2026
On February 25th, Mr. Garcia met with current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students to enter their course requests for next school year. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Mr. Garcia.
State Testing
State testing for students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will take place the week of April 8th. The juniors will take all parts of the MME - SAT, Work Keys and M-Step. The 9th and 10th grade students will take a PSAT. More details to follow. Stay tuned!
Clue! April 11 & 12
Ms. Maes is directing Clue this year. This production will take place at the CVHS Auditorium on April 11th and 12th at 7pm.
We hope you can join us and support the hardworking students who have spent many hours preparing for this wonderful production!
Black History Month
The Black Student Union, along with staff sponsor Mr. Garcia, planned activities to honor and celebrate Black History Month. According to History.com, "Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history." The club took a field trip to the Henry Ford Museum today with Staff--Mr. Jones, Mr. Pete and Mr. Garcia. I would like to recognize the leadership of this club: Jaiyla M., Charles M., Mimi O., and Jasmine H.
National Merit Scholarship Finalists
National Merit Scholarship Program - Class of 2025
This year, the IAM had 8 students who were eligible to compete and be recognized in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Every October juniors take the PSAT/NMSQT in order to have a score to compete in this national program. Congratulations students!
Finalists: Ryan B., McKenna P., and Noah N.
Commended: Kayla D., Andrew M., Matthew M., Nathan M., and Duncan W.
College Fair Field Trip for Juniors
Mr. Garcia is coordinating a trip to the Novi Suburban Showplace on April 3rd for the National College Fair. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to talk with university representatives and learn more about college and university options. Typically, there are over 130 college and universities in attendance. More information will be provided soon.
Spring Conferences Showcase
Similar to the event that we held in the fall, we will be hosting the spring conferences showcase on March 13th from 12-3pm and 4-7pm. We will offer both in-person and online options. Sign-up will be available next week; we will send it out via School Messenger. We are utilizing Conferences Manager again, the same system as last year.
IAM to host annual American Red Cross Blood Drive
The IAM HOSA Student Organization, with the support of Staff Sponsor Ms. Dionne, will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on March 13th from 12:00noon - 6:00pm. Parents/Guardians can use this link to make an appointment:

Key Club - Annual Service Leadership Conference
Twelve Key Club members travelled with Profe Jirkans to Lansing for the annual Service Leadership Conference. They participated in a variety of workshop, listened to speakers and had lots fun! Here are some highlights:
- McCarty L. and Hannah C. went early to help set up since they are both Lieutenant Governors in the Michigan District.
- McCarty L. was elected to run for the Office of International Trustee.
- Tife F. won an award for being an outstanding club secretary by getting all of her monthly reports in on time.
- Abby D. won an award for getting the club's dues in on time at both the state and national level.
- McCarty L., Tife F. and Abby D. all won Spirit Awards for their exemplary participation.
Our club won second place in the "Single Service" category for our Car Wash that raised funds and awareness for the Thrist Project. https://thirstproject.org/
Way to go students! And, thank you to Profe Jirkans, Key Club Staff Sponsor.
MSBOA Solo & Ensemble
On Saturday, February 1st, Mr. Hoey's music students from the International Academy of Macomb performed at the MSBOA District 16 Solo & Ensemble Festival held at Rochester HS. Students were awarded ratings for their performance from 1st Division through 5th Division. The IAM had 18 events perform, with 12 events receiving a 1st Division Rating, 5 events receiving a 2nd Division Rating and 1 event receiving a 3rd Division Rating. To prepare for and to participate in the Solo and Ensemble event, in addition to the rigorous coursework that students take on at our school, shows a high level of dedication to the craft of music making. These students should be acknowledged for their hard work and determination. The following are to be recognized:
- Students receiving at least one 1st Division rating: Matthew B., Santino C., Leyton C., Johanna G., Alec N., Julia H., Leo K., Amelia L., Aubrey M., Kayleigh N., Shiv P., Melina P., Anthony S., Maja S., Ian S., Michael S., and Alyse T..
- Students who received at least one 2nd Division rating: MeKiya B., Matthew B., Connor C., Johanna G., Aubrey M., Gabriel M., and Antoinette S.
Student who earned a 1st Division Rating have qualified to perform at MSBOA State Solo & Ensemble Festival on March 15th at Warren Cousino High School.
Congratulations to all our students who performed!
NHS Valentine's Day Service Project
IAM NHS Students made beautiful valentines to give to service members at the local Selfridge Air Force Base. The service members were thankful for the kind gesture. After Staff Sponsor Ms. Cook delivered them she received pictures in return showing their appreciation. Senior Alicia W. was an integral part of organizing this project. Way to go students!
Congratulations to Senior Jasmine H.
We have a student who was selected to represent Girl Scouts of the USA at the United Nations’ 69th Commission on the Status of Women. This is a remarkable achievement that reflects her leadership and dedication. Her name will now be forever in the Library of Congress! Congratulations, Senior Jasmine H.!
