📚✨ A Heartfelt Thank You to Doug Godard and the Amazing Volunteers from Huntington Bank! ✨📚
We were thrilled to welcome author Doug Godard and the incredible volunteers from Huntington Bank to Cherry Hill Primary on Friday, December 6th, for Financial Literacy Day!
Our students loved the engaging read-alouds of Best Day at the Zoo and were so excited to receive their very own personalized books to take home. This memorable experience was made possible thanks to the generosity and dedication of these wonderful volunteers. 💚
This special day was supported by Bonzy Charities, Inc., a Columbus-based nonprofit committed to empowering children from low- and moderate-income families through literacy and winter coat initiatives.

Thank you for making a lasting impact on our students and sparking their love for reading! 🙌
Living Legacy Through Giving
Derek Stockwell, a proud graduate of the Class of 2006, left a legacy of kindness and compassion that continues to inspire us today. Derek, who graduated with honors, was known for his selflessness and his heart for others.
One winter day, a 6-year-old Derek came home from school wrapped in a blanket, clutching a note from his teacher. When his mom, Cheryl, called the teacher, she learned that Derek had given his winter coat to a friend who didn’t have one. When Cheryl asked Derek why, he cried and said, “Mommy, he came to school without a winter coat, and I knew I had another coat in the closet.” With tears in her own eyes, Cheryl reassured him, and in true Derek fashion, he replied, “Oh good, because I told him I’d bring the matching snowsuit and boots tomorrow.”
Derek spent his life giving, always looking out for those in need. Even as he faced his own battles with severe depression, Derek’s heart for others shone brightly. Sadly, Derek passed away in 2019, but his parents, Creg and Cheryl, have made it their mission to keep his legacy alive while raising awareness about mental health.
In Derek’s honor, the Stockwells partnered with the Good Hope Lions Club to donate coats, hats, and gloves to students in need. Last year, Cherry Hill Primary received 5 coats, and this year, an additional 5 coats were donated, along with 100 sets of hats and gloves. The Stockwells and the Lions Club hope to increase these numbers every year, ensuring more children stay warm during the cold winter months.
Creg and Cheryl want Derek’s life and story to make a difference. They hope to spark conversations about mental health, severe depression, and the importance of reaching out to those who may be struggling.
We are incredibly grateful for their generosity and commitment to making a difference in our community. Derek’s legacy is a reminder of the impact one kind heart can have, and his story will continue to inspire kindness and compassion for years to come.

A Holiday Concert to Remember!
This December, Washington Court House City Schools hit a high note as our kindergarteners brought holiday cheer to Cherry Hill Primary with a delightful concert. The young performers sang festive favorites like “Oh Tannenbaum,” charmed the audience with “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas,” and ended with a warm and lively “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Jackson, our dedicated and talented music teacher, for leading the way in creating this magical event. Her hard work and passion ensured an unforgettable evening of joy and music for our students and their families. Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the holiday season!
