Is A Family Member Not Receiving Emails?
We send most of our communication through mass emails. It is important for you or your family members to receive this communication. Emails are sent from
Maple Grove Middle School <NoReply@msg.district279.org>.
If a family member is not receiving emails from MGMS, please have them check their junk or clutter folder. They might need to add this email address to their contacts and check "always allow".
Frozen Recap
This past weekend students performed for over 1,800 audience members and 3 sold out shows, the heartwarming story, Frozen Jr. With energy, creativity, and collaboration a truly magical experience was created. We are so fortunate to have a community that supports young artists. The 6th-8th grade cast of actors and backstage technicians included 95 students under the direction of Josée Axberg, Terra Favilla, and Sky Marthaler. Theater at Maple Grove Middle School produces two shows a year. A play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Until next year for the next show! More information is always available on the theater website.
The Last Parent Teacher Conference
Our last Parent Teacher Conference is going to be on Thursday, May 2 come anytime between 3:30-7. It is in-person so there is no need to sign up for a conference time. Teacher's will be located in their classrooms.
Save the Date
PACT
Similar to elementary school PTOs, PACT (Parents and Community Together) works to build a strong, inclusive community at MGMS. Every MGMS parent, caregiver and staff is a member.
Primary ways for parents/caregivers to make an impact include donations, volunteering and advocacy.
Donations
Staff appreciation week is May 7-10. Stay tuned for ways to donate as we thank the MGMS staff for their hard work and dedication.
Volunteer Opportunities and Event Information
Keep an eye out for details on the final two social and service events of the year that our student groups are helping host–an ice cream social during conferences and a Kindness Campaign.
Sign up to help with Kai Walther’s 8th grade ELA class “Coding Intro Lessons” on April 16, 23 or 24. No coding experience needed!
Sign up to help with end-of-year Chromebook collection on Tuesday June 4th.
We’re prepping for next year! Plan now to make a difference and get involved in one of the following ways:
Co-chairs for the fall fundraiser (Oct 2024)
Parent coordinator for MGMS Night at Ninjas United (Oct 2024)
Contact mgmsPACTtreasurer@gmail.com for more information.
Check out an overview of other event and volunteer information here.
Advocacy
On March 14th, the MN legislature signed into law an SRO bill addressing one of the ISD 279 legislative priorities. MGMS now has an SRO back in the building. Welcome back, Officer Parker!
Learn more about the 2023-2024 legislative priorities, and contact your legislators to ask them to support the priorities you’re passionate about.
PACT Meetings
Thanks to everyone who attended meetings this year! Our May 20th meeting is tentative–we’ll confirm in the next Mustang Memo.

Reminders for Parents/Guardians
Absences, Appointments, Attendance - What to Do...
ABSENCES
If your child is going to be late or absent from school, please call the school with the reason for the absence. The telephone call eliminates the need to send a note with your student when he/she returns to school. Excused absences consist of illness, medical appointments, and family emergency situations such as a funeral. Oversleeping, missing the bus, or skipping school are not excused and are considered truancy.
MGMS 24 Hour Attendance Line: 763-315-7603.
APPOINTMENTS/EARLY RELEASE - HERE IS WHAT YOU DO
1. Send a note with your student in the morning
2. When the student gets to school they go to Student Services to get a white pass
3. At the stated time on the pass, your student leaves class and comes to the office with the white pass and signs out in the main office
4. The person picking up can wait in the car (very helpful on cold winter days)
If you didn't send a note, you will need to come in with your driver's license and we will call your student down when you arrive. This procedure is in place to ensure student safety.
ATTENDANCE
If you received a call saying your child was absent one or more periods, please check your ParentVue account for the period your student was absent. Have your child talk to the teacher for the class that they were marked absent. The teacher will then communicate with our attendance person.
3 Accounts Parents Need to Have
We have three accounts parents should have; ParentVue, Schoology and EduTrak. ParentVue allows you to see attendance, testing scores and report cards (we do not mail them out). Schoology allows you to see assignments and communicate with the teachers. EduTrak is how you add money to your student's lunch account, pay fees for sports, or other fines. Attached below is a document that will help you set up accounts and answer any questions you may have.
