Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
As you know, all Fraser Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of MLK Day. While this is one specific date chosen each year to honor his legacy and share his message, teaching our students about kindness, equality, compassion, and justice are a part of what we do each day.
This week and throughout February as we celebrate Black History Month, we will be teaching our Comets about African-American heroes of the past as they learn about slavery, the Civil Rights Movement, and other areas of American history. They will also learn about today's African-American heroes who are contributing to our American culture in so many positive ways.
In studying the past and discussing the present, students develop empathy and understanding to create a more unified, equal future for all Americans. MLK's message is as important today as it was 60 years ago.
If you would like some additional activities to do with your children, here is a downloadable activity book with coloring pages, mazes, and other age-appropriate activities to support students as they learn about the Civil Rights Movement, MLK, and various other heroes of that time.
We encourage all of our Fraser Families to take advantage of the day off of school to learn more about the legacy of Dr. King. The Interfaith Center for Racial Justice is hosting an event in Mt. Clemens. Additionally, Little Guide Detroit has compiled a list of activities and events available in our area.
4th Grade Learns About Martin Luther King
The 4th graders at Twain have been spending time learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and how he impacted our country. We have learned a lot about bravery and standing up for something you believe in. We’ve watched videos, read books, and written about our own dreams for the future. One of our favorite activities was a collaborative art activity. Each student was responsible for coloring one piece of a mystery picture. Once finished, we put all 30 pieces together to make a beautiful mural of Dr. King.

Basketball Jones PBIS Reward
Twain students recently filled our ROCKStar ticket bin located outside the main office. They have been working on this goal since the beginning of the school year. Individual students and classes earn tickets for making good choices and modeling ROCKStar behavior. As a reward for this exemplary behavior, Twain was visited by Jim "Basketball" Jones. Our ROCKStars had a wonderful time as thy participated in this fun-filled assembly.
We look forward to working towards our next PBIS reward prior to the end of the year. Keep up the outta this world behavior ROCKStars!

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
