Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program
Dear City School Families,
This year, Vermont will be implementing the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP) provided by Cognia for the third time. The VTCAP is administered annually in the spring to students in grades 3 through 9 in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics; and to students in grades 5, 8, and 11 in science. The ELA and mathematics assessments are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Common Core State Standards. The science assessments are designed to measure students’ mastery of the Next Generation Science Standards. The VTCAP assessments are computer-adaptive with a variety of accessibility features available to students.
St. Albans City School VTCAP Test Schedule:
ELA (grades 3-8): Tuesday, April 8th and Wednesday April 9th
Math (grades 3-8): Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th
Science (grades 5 & 8): Monday, April 14th and Tuesday, April 15th
Please be sure your students are here and on time during these testing days.
For test security purposes, all cell phones and smart watches will be handed in to the classroom teachers at the beginning of the testing period and returned at the end of the testing period that day.
Getting a good night’s sleep during these weeks and hearing words of encouragement are some of the best ways families can support their students during this time.
After students have completed testing, Individual Student Reports will be sent to families via email as soon as available. These reports will provide information on what your student(s) learned in relation to the statewide academic standards. When reviewing test scores, it is important to consider that these tests provide a broad overview of demonstrated learning and that results are most useful when viewed in the context of other information gathered by the teacher and the school. The primary purpose of our testing program is to provide families and school leaders with an increased understanding of how teaching and learning is taking place and how students’ needs are being met.
Please note that Vermont’s test delivery system uses state-of-the-art security features that protect your students’ privacy and adhere to all federal and state confidentiality regulations. To learn more about the VTCAP, please visit Vermont Help & Support (cognia.org).
If you have any questions, please contact Kyle Ashton (kashton@maplerun.org or Angie Fitzgerald (afitzgerald@maplerun.org).
Weather at Your School Returns to SACS!
Dear Parents and Caregivers of St. Albans City School,
We are pleased to inform you that NBC5 Meteorologist, Marissa Vigevani, will be broadcasting her live weather updates from our school Friday, March 28th between 4:30 -8:00 am, at approximately 15 minute intervals. This is part of NBC5’s “Weather at Your School program. We are excited to be hosting this special featured segment. Parents should plan to stay with their children until 7:15 am if they want to be featured earlier on that morning. Ms. Vigevani will be positioned right in front of the building by drop offs broadcasting with the camera pointed toward the school building. There will be opportunities for some students throughout the morning who are interested to interact with Ms. Vigevani and “make an appearance” in the live broadcast and give a weather forecast of their own. If your child would like to come early and be on the news broadcast on NBC5, you are giving your consent for your child to be filmed.

Restorative Practices
We are excited to invite the Maple Run community to join us for two informative sessions on restorative practices, hosted by Maple Run Unified School District with guests from Starling Collaborative. These sessions will explore how restorative practices can strengthen relationships, promote accountability, and create a supportive environment for our students, families, and educators. You’ll learn valuable strategies for fostering a positive, inclusive community both at school and at home.
Facilitators for these sessions include Jeff Rouleau, a Maple Run parent, teacher, coach, and Restorative Practices Trainer, and Stacie Rouleau, a Maple Run parent, teacher, coach, administrator, and Restorative Practices Trainer. Camille Koosmann, representing Starling Collaborative, is a restorative practitioner, trainer, and coach who formerly led the Restorative Practices in Schools program for the Franklin Grand Isle Restorative Justice Center.
Light food and childcare will be provided. Register today to be part of this important conversation! For more information, contact Alexis Hoyt at ahoyt@maplerun.org or 802-370-3946.
