WEEKLY NEWSLETTER OF O. HENRY MIDDLE SCHOOL
No School Monday, September 2nd- Labor Day
Principal Update
Mustang Families,
It was a genuine delight to see so many of you at our Back to School Night! I hope you had the chance to explore your Mustang’s classes and get a glimpse of the exciting activities and possibilities that await us this year.
I’m elated by the enthusiasm and vitality our students are bringing to the new school year. They are already fully engaged and eager to learn, and their excitement is truly infectious. It’s clear that our students are ready to immerse themselves in their studies and actively contribute to our campus community.
As we continue to build on this positive momentum, I encourage you to become an essential part of O. Henry by joining the PTA. Your participation not only bolsters our programs but also reinforces the connection between home and school. Additionally, be sure to sign up for the new AISD app to stay informed about campus events and important updates. This resource will help keep you connected to everything happening at our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration. Together, we can make this year an exceptional one for our students! Enjoy your three-day weekend—just a reminder, there is no school on Monday!
Let’s make it a week to be an O. Henry Mustang!

O. Henry International Travel Information Session
Information Meeting for Japan-- still time for Costa Rica and Panama
Dear families,
We hope you’ve had a great summer and are settling into the start of the school year! As some of you know, O. Henry has a wonderful international educational travel program run by Mrs. Amber Bass-Patterson. She took about 40 families to London and Paris last spring break and is heading to Costa Rica & Panama later this year, and Japan next year!
She is hosting an info session on September 5th for the 2026 Japan trip for those who didn’t have a chance to enroll last year. The 9-day tour will take place over spring break, so we will be able to see the incredible Japanese cherry blossoms in bloom, which is a once in a lifetime experience.
In order to attend the info session, please RSVP using the following link so we know how many people to expect: https://bit.ly/4bYK2hw
Please contact Mrs. Bass Patterson at amber.bass-patterson@austinisd.org for questions.
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your student
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- Monthly payment plans and scholarship options
There are also a few spots left on the 2025 Caribbean tour of Costa Rica & Panama, so please attend the meeting if you’re interested in traveling sooner!

Outdoor Classrooms and Learning Spaces
- This past summer we unfortunately lost some of O. Henry's Heritage Trees due to illness. We did not want to see a tragedy turn in to a complete loss, so we are currently looking to update our outdoor learning and social spaces.
- If you have information and/or resources to help with Stump Sealant, a till, a small bobcat please contact Scott Gray at scott.gray@austinisd.org.
- Chicken and Goat Club- Did you know that you can help support our goat and chicken program. All funds will go directly to feed and supporting our open-concept enclosures.
- Campus Work Day- stay tuned for our upcoming campus workday in September.
