National Young Leaders Day
It was a privilege during Week 4 to take our students that are in leadership positions to the 2023 NYLD held at Claudelands Event Centre. Just under 2000 students from across the greater Waikato took part. Please see below a summary of the day written by Lydia Reddy and Alex Briones.
John Byers
Principal
On Tuesday, the 16th of May, our School Leaders, Waka Captains, and PE leaders all took a trip to Hamilton, for the annual National Young Leaders Day. National Young leaders Day is an event that happens every year at Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton, where many inspiring people come to speak to aspiring young leaders. The whole day was a breathtaking experience for many youthful individuals, including Alex and I.
My favourite speaker was Georgia Lines because she is a massive inspiration to me. Just hearing her life story and how she went from the bottom to the top in the musical industry. Managing to go to America and perform in front of hundreds of people is a massive life goal for me. Seeing that someone so similar to me was able to achieve that amount of fame and happiness is so motivating.
Alex’s favourite speaker was Julia Grace, who used a unique way to inform others about the issues with mental health and how to deal with them. She found it fascinating how Julia described mental health in a fun way. Using ‘Jelly Buddy’ as another word to describe someone safe to talk to during your ‘Wobbly’ times really inspired her to be a better person.
NYLD was an entertaining and informative event suited for young leaders. I would really recommend striving to become a leader of our school to experience this once in a lifetime occasion

We are currently seeking sponsorship from our school and wider community, to support us with this event. If you are a part of any business or family who might like to support us in any way, please feel free to contact Chris Finucane/Assistant Principal, or John Byers/ Principal.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.

It's that time of year again!!! We are taking part in the fantastic Oxford Pies Fundraiser.
Please take the time to ask friends, neighbours and whānau if they would like to purchase some of the yummy delights on offer. These are great for the freezer over the winter terms or just as a delicious treat.
We will be accepting orders up until Tuesday 13th June.
Delivery date will be Thursday 22nd June.
Cash/eftpos or internet Banking are available.
Please note : When paying for pies - please make 1 payment per form (especially if using Eftpos and/or online banking.) This makes it a lot easier for us to track and collate orders.

Pukeko museum trip follow up
Following on from their trip to the Waikato Museum the Pukeko Syndicate have been very busy!
Room 6 were so inspired by the microscopic exhibition of Elizabeth Thomson that they wanted to explore objects up/close and microscopically. Students chose their object and mediums to recreate a microscopic art piece.
Room 7 has had fun exploring the world around them through magnifying glasses and microscopes!
Room 8 has been using the 3 art styles we visited on the Museum trip to create an Alien Planet art and craft feature. We have used Elizabeth Thomson's "Lateral Theories" and up close perspectives to create a planet and an alien feature, and from Bev Moon's knitted exhibition we are creating aliens from pompoms.... Here are a few parts of our work taking shape... watch our blog to see our final work....
