Welcome to Education
We will finish out the day focusing on classroom management, and the do's and don'ts in the world of education. Professionalism, equity for all students, and best practices will be stressed during this time.
Dates:
Thursday, September 12, 2024
Tuesday, September 18, 2024
Special Education for All Teachers
Special Education is well known for its wide use of acronyms such as IEP, NOREP, FBA, PBSP and more, and often used as if everyone should know what they stand for. Time will not only be spent defining these acronyms, but we will take a deeper dive at what each one truly is, and why it is important. These are legally binding documents that all teachers are expected to follow, and many times teachers are unclear of what their roles are when it comes to implementing them.
With an increase in the student population with social and emotional needs, it is also important that all new teachers are familiar with implementing behavior plans, understanding antecedents, and motivating our at-risk students. For this reason, we will spend time looking at how theses plans are developed, why they are included in an IEP, and again, the role of the general education teacher in following these plans.
The day will conclude with a focus on co-teaching, as this will most likely occur throughout their school day. We will spend time looking at what co-teaching really is, the different models of co-teaching, and making the most of the support staff in the room.

Understanding the Standards, Curriculum and Universal Design for Learning
In addition to looking at the standards, teachers will discuss different types of assessments, the importance of these assessments, and using the data to drive instruction. This will lead us into the last part of our day, as we focus on the Universal Design for Learning. Putting the use of the standards and assessments to drive our instruction, but doing so in a way that is accessible to all learners, and meets the wide variety of learning needs in the classroom. There will also be time given to explore the lending Library at the IU, and the interactive opportunities available to teachers at no cost to take into their classrooms and try.
Dates:
Tuesday, October 22, 2024

What Would You Do? Dealing with At-Risk Student Issues, Trauma and SEL
This session will support participants in understanding their role in recognizing and addressing at-risk student issues such as drug/alcohol/tobacco abuse, bullying, and homelessness/poverty. There will be time spent looking at common ACES students are experiencing and ways to help them overcome these ACEs.
