What if my AP class isn't until the spring semester? When do I register/pay?

THIS IS FOR SECOND SEMESTER CLASSES ONLY----For AP students in Spring ONLY semester classes, please make sure to sign into your myap.collegeboard.org account and enroll in your Spring AP class sections or exam only sections (you will be able to join after your first day of class in January). Your teacher will give you the join code, so be sure to check with them if needed. For student's that do NOT already have a College Board account, you will need to go to College Board to create one. Please make sure you only have ONE account, and you must use your legal name when you register. After you have enrolled you will then register and pay for your Spring AP exam on the school webstore (this will open on Friday, January 7th). Make sure you SELECT the SPRING Class at https://twhs.conroeisd.net/school/our-campus/school-webstore/. The deadline is February 27, 2022.

NOTE: IF you paid for any spring only exams in the fall then all you need to do now is join the myapclassroom with code provided by Spring ONLY AP teacher in January.

The deadline to pay and register for AP exams for yearlong and Fall classes was 10/31. Any student needing to register and pay will need to see Mrs. Spears in grade level. Students will need a join code since they are late. There is also a $40 late fee for each exam. Students in Spring ONLY courses will enroll and pay (if they haven't already paid) in January and will have until 2/27/22 to make that enrollment and payment.

FINAL deadline for all AP exam ordering/payment is 2/27/22---NO payment or exam orders will be allowed after this date. No exceptions.

TENNIS: The Varsity Tennis team finished the season with a #4 State ranking for the 2nd consecutive year. The Highlanders also received the USTA Team Sportsmanship award for Region 2. Rachel Sam and Emilio Lopez were named 1st Line 6A All-State for their results at the State Meet.

Both the Freshman and JV capped off the Fall season by winning the Humble ISD tennis tournaments by winning 4 of 5 events each and brought home numerous individual medals for their efforts.

The Varsity and the JV were both undefeated District 13-6A Champions in Team Tennis.

LADY HIGHLANDER BASKETBALL: The 2021-2022 Lady Highlander Basketball season is in full swing and the Freshmen Lady Highlanders have hit the ground running. We started 2-0 heading into the Conroe ISD Tournament. The ladies battled and fought hard, defeating a tough opponent in Northshore High School, then earning a comeback win against District rival Grand Oaks, to bring home the Championship! Since then, we have been back to work, taking a hard overtime loss by one point versus Katy, then winning an overtime thriller at home to beat Memorial.

• Overall, hard nose defense, and a fast paced- multi-scoring attack has proven to be vital to our 9-2 start. Our Freshmen are led by Captains: Claudia Keene and Samantha Simpson who are becoming two tough-to-deal with players on both ends of the floor. Matea Stroder brings us toughness and energy. Sophie Peters is our anchor in the paint, who quietly does all the little things that have big impact. The freshmen boldly took on Humble with only six players. The ladies played discipline and smart and dominated the second half of play to bring home the big win. Keep up the good work ladies, as we prepare for district play after the Christmas break with only one goal in mind! Let's continue to make our hard work pay off!
• The freshmen green team has also been putting in some hard work heading into the season. Unfortunately, they have not had a chance to play in too many games thus far. They are looking forward to a couple games in the next few weeks, and then a full district schedule in January. They continue to learn and grow as a team each day.
• As we crank up this 2021-2022 Lady Highlander Basketball season with the slogan of Hard Work Pays off, the JV teams has been putting in some tremendous work thus far in their first few weeks of practice! With the ability to find success at the start of the season, hard work is proving to pay off! The team currently has a record of 7-2 and was able to capture 3rd place in the Conroe ISD JV Tournament. There has been some phenomenal play by many of the players; however, Lillian Mitchell has been a true standout with her tenacious defense and her effort on doing the little things that don't necessarily show up on the stat sheet. The Lady Highlanders are looking forward to competing in the Magnolia Tournament this weekend in hopes of bringing home more hardware! Good Luck Lady Highlanders and Keep up the great work!
• This season is in full swing for the Lady Highlander Varsity Basketball team. We have already competed in one overnight tournament, and our on our way to our 2nd tournament in Katy this weekend. The start of the season has been a bit rough with some tough competition, but as long as these girls continue to learn and to grow their bond as a team then once we get to district play all of the bumps and bruises along the way will be worth it!! Tuesday night the girls traveled to Humble and picked up a big road win. They defeated the Lady Wildcats 46-45. Leading the way for the Lady Highlanders was Laura Haas who hit four three pointers and ended the night with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Also having a good night was Alejandra Merodio with 9 points and 5 rebounds and Anna Orr with 8 points 4 rebounds. The girls look to build on their confidence after this win and have a great weekend in the Katy ISD Tournament this weekend. Go Highlanders!!!

SWIM AND DIVE: The Woodlands Swim and Dive team competed at TISCA Friday Nov. 19. Stellar swims and dives all around. The Hammer Down award winners were Maria U, Evlin R, Chloe C, Jocelyn B, Emma G, Ryan R, Tyler T, Roberto B, Slade S, and Caleb G. Way to go team! Come out and support the JV team as they compete in their last meet of the year, JV Districts on Friday December 10 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium at 5 pm.

CROSS COUNTRY: Nike Cross Regionals (NXR) South:

Nike Cross Regionals South was a huge success on Saturday, November 20th at Bear Branch Sportsfields. Nearly 2,000 runners competed from many states including AR, LA, MS, OK, and TX. There are a total of 9 NXR events across the US - ours being the shining star nationwide!

With almost 130 Highlanders running in three divisions, TWHS had outstanding performances all-around!

Garmin Running Lane National XC Championships:

In lieu of Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) which is typically held in Portland each year, a select group of Varsity runners from both the Girls and Boys Teams will be heading to Huntsville, AL this weekend to compete in the championship division. Good luck to The Woodlands XC!

BOYS BASKETBALL: Boys basketball is very busy this time of year. Currently our Varsity is 6-2 and our next game will be Tuesday at home vs. Tomball Memorial. Please come out and support. All 4 of our sub varsity teams will be playing this weekend in tournaments. You can go to our website at www.highlanderbasketball.org to find the tournament schedules.

SOFTBALL: Highlander Softball will be hosting an adult Bingo Night Fundraiser this Saturday, December 4th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on FM 1488. $40 gets you dinner, drinks and bingo sheets for 15 games with $30, $40 and $50 payouts. There will also be a silent auction with a wide variety of items and raffle prizes throughout the night. Dinner will be from 5:00-6:30 and Bingo will be from 6:30-9:00 with the silent auction running throughout the night. Cash, Checks, Venmo and Zelle will all be accepted. Come enjoy a fun, casual evening with plenty of food and drinks for those 21 and up while supporting the Highlander Softball program.

Pre-Registration for 2022-2023 will start with Blitz week, January 18 - 21, 2022. During this week, all core teachers will give their advisements for their students. Parents and students will be able to see those advisements on their four-year plan tab on Parent Access Center (PAC) and Student Access Center (SAC). In addition, elective teachers will also start to visit with students during this time about the various programs in their departments.

Parent Information Night/Elective Fair: We have tentatively scheduled our Parent Information Night and Elective Fair for Monday, January 24th. This event will be held at the Senior Campus. This will be a terrific opportunity to see all of the various programs and course offerings TWHS has for our students. Counselors will offer presentations that will include Dual Credit/AP information as well as general high school information.

Registration in Parent and Student Access will be open from January 24 – 28th More information on these upcoming events will be coming in future editions of Highlander Happenings.

Seniors are the only students in the Fall semester that may be exempt from final exams for half-credit courses which have a final exam, not a midterm. Students must maintain an 85-100 class average for the semester (18-weeks). In addition, the following criteria apply as well:

1. Seniors must meet the criteria listed above and the discipline requirement listed below. Seniors may be exempt from all their final exams both in the Fall (semester-long courses) and Spring semesters (year-long courses). Seniors may not be exempt from midterm exams in the Fall semester.
2. Underclassmen are not eligible for exemptions from final exams or midterms in the Fall semester.
3. A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final exam period and must be present the entire duration of the final exam period to be considered exempt. Students who check out early during a final exam will forfeit the exemption and will receive a grade of Incomplete for the exam. Failure to attend will result in a zero or an incomplete for that course.
4. Any student that has served ISS, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course during the semester of the final exam is not eligible for a final exam exemption for that course.
5. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete their exams in a distraction-free environment, the attendance office will not be doing early checkouts during exam periods. Parents and students should plan accordingly so that students remain in their exam period the entire duration of the exam period (both mid-term and final exams).

TWHS STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council held a Food Drive for Matthew's Birthday Wish throughout the month of November. Thank you to all who participated. TWHS was able to donate over 8000 non-perishable food items and over $3000 to this amazing charity. TWHS helped make a huge difference in the lives of the food insecure in our community. If you are going to Macy's at the Woodlands Mall on Saturday, December 4th please say hello to our StuCo members who will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive. We are excited about this opportunity and hope we can help bring in lots of money for the Salvation Army. Coming up Monday December 6 - Student Council will be hosting our Annual Custodian Appreciation Dinner. Our custodians are amazing and work very hard. FBLA: FBLA will have our Holiday Social at House of Pies on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 7 pm. We are doing a Toy Drive so bring a new toy to be submitted for our Toy Drive. Also, FBLA Competitors are free to come after school on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, to work on Competitive Events.

SCUBA CLUB: Our next meeting will be Monday, December 6th, at 3pm in LGI 1 at the Senior Campus. This is our annual Holiday Party! We will have food, games, and some scuba-related prize drawings! You do NOT have to be scuba certified to attend our meetings. Every meeting you have attended this semester (including this one) gets your name in the drawings!

STUDENT PARKING: Please note that the posted speed limit on the TWHS property is 10 MPH. Please be sure to observe the speed limit as well follow traffic rules such as stopping at intersections and cross paths on the property as well as using blinkers when turning into parking spaces and pathways.

Students assigned parking spaces in the Band Lot (1279-1508) or ROTC Lot (2114-2163) must move their cars by 3 pm every day. Students are not allowed to cut through the church parking lot. Nor are they allowed to park at the church or the neighborhood across the street. You will be towed. It appears that flu season has arrived in our area. Now is a good time to discuss with your doctor whether an annual flu vaccine is recommended. As a reminder, please keep your student home if he or she is exhibiting signs of illness.

As your senior is applying for college, please be aware that most colleges and universities require two doses of the MCV4 (meningococcal) vaccine, with the second one received on or after the 16th birthday. You may want to consider scheduling a well check with your student’s PCP over one of the upcoming holiday breaks so that he or she is fully vaccinated for college, and avoid the rush over Spring Break. You or your student is always welcome to request a copy of his or her vaccine record, either in person, or via email. We do not submit them to colleges for you.

If your student tests positive for COVID, we ask that you report the positive case in your student’s SSO by going to the COVID Central app and following the prompts there. You will receive information about isolation, attendance, a return to school date, as well as an email confirmation. By reporting the case online, your student’s absence will be excused. Students do still need to contact their teachers to come up with a plan to get their missing assignments.

Also in the COVID Central app, you may schedule a free rapid test for your student at the Conroe ISD Police Department. Appointments are available from 8-4 on school days.

If your student has received the COVID vaccine, you are welcome to submit a copy of that vaccine record to the clinic. If your student is exposed to someone who has tested positive and is not having symptoms, her or she does not have to quarantine if we have a copy of their vaccine record on file, or if we have documentation that he or she has tested positive in the last six months.

HIGHLIGHTED HIGHLANDERS: Several times a year The Woodlands High School and the PTO honor students for outstanding citizenship, achievement, or service. TWHS IMPROV: The Woodlands High School Improv Troupe is thrilled to host the Teacher vs. Student Improv Show TONIGHT, December 3 at 7pm at The Woodlands High School Auditorium! Come watch the epic showdown between the recently crowned best Improv Troupe in Texas and Mr. Rowland, Mr. Humeniuk, Mr. Rodgers, and Mr. Muehsler. THE WOODLANDS HIGH SCHOOL ART TRUST

The Woodlands High School Art Trust (TWHSAT) a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2011 to help maintain, conserve and display the student-selected, student-purchased collection of established artists at The Woodlands High School. We currently have 49 pieces by 44 Texas Artists in our collection. The vision for the TWHS Art Trust is to see the art collection grow each year and to have it extend through the hallways of the high school. Pre-COVID we offered FREE tours of our collection to schools and other groups by appointment and we hope to resume these tours as soon as we are able.

Other than the public sculptures around The Woodlands, this is the ONLY permanent collection of art available to the public. It is seen by THOUSANDS of people every day. Please consider supporting this unique collection that sets us apart from other public high schools and strengthens our goal of being one of the best high schools in the state and country.
