We’ve had another fantastic week here at Winston Campus Middle School! Our students enjoyed a fun and engaging assembly during Thursday’s early release day, where they showcased their enthusiasm and school spirit.
In the coming weeks, we’re excited to launch our clubs, providing students with even more opportunities to explore their interests and connect with peers. At the same time, we’ll continue to dive deeper into our curriculum, fostering a strong learning environment as we move through the school year.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to all the exciting activities and learning experiences ahead!
¡Hemos tenido otra semana fantástica aquí en la Escuela Intermedia Winston Campus! Nuestros estudiantes disfrutaron de una asamblea divertida y participativa durante el día de salida temprana del jueves, donde demostraron su entusiasmo y espíritu escolar.

We want to apologize for the confusion regarding the picture codes. Although we operate under one building, we are functioning as two separate schools, and using the same company caused some mix-ups. We have resolved this issue and obtained a new link specifically for the middle school.
The correct code is 0112056IN2. You can access the new link here: Picture Day Link.
Picture Day is scheduled for Monday, the 30th. Students at Winston Campus Middle School will have their pictures taken during gym class.
If you have already purchased pictures with the wrong code, don’t worry! The picture company will identify your student and move them to the middle school.

Vision & Hearing Screening/Evaluaciones de Vision y Audicion
Vision and hearing screenings will be held on Monday, September 30th, for all of our 8th graders, special education students, and transferred students. The screenings will take place after students have their pictures taken during their PE class.
The parent or legal guardian of a student may object to hearing or vision screening tests for their children on religious grounds. If a religious objection is made, a written and signed statement from the parent or legal guardian detailing such objections must be presented to the local school authority. All students above mentioned fall under the state-mandated screening requirements and will be screened unless we have a recent vision or audiological examination or religious objection on file in the health office. Please refer to your school's health office with any questions:

Jazz Band
Jazz band will have our first rehearsal on Wednesday, 10/2 in D104. This group meets every Wednesday and rehearses after school until 3:45. This is a group for students who already play an instrument and would like to challenge themselves to play in different styles such as jazz, blues, rock, and pop. All instruments are welcome, however traditional instruments include trumpet, saxophone, trombone, piano, drumset, electric guitar, electric bass, and vocals. Email Mx. ERIN'S LAW
Each school year, District 15 implements a child sexual abuse and grooming behavior prevention program that helps prepare students and staff to identify and respond to warning signs of suspected child sexual abuse, how to identify grooming behaviors that may be related to possible sexual abuse, and how to report child sexual abuse. The prevention program is developmentally appropriate, is implemented by teachers and school mental health professionals in each classroom, and is consistent with the Erin’s law requirement in Illinois. Information about this prevention program can be found within this letter.
8th Grade
District 211 will be mailing out information to parents by October 1st to provide information for parents and students. They are in their final planning stages and will have more information coming out to families. The district has a website that will have all the necessary information you will need. Your 8th grade students will take a freshman placement test on Saturday, October 26th. This will take place at the high school. If you have questions about the testing or any other information about the transition please directly contact the high school. Mrs. Brand, our associate principal, that will work directly with our 8th grade families this year.

Our 6th graders are settling into their new routines and getting to know their classmates and teachers. This week, students are focusing on building strong academic habits and learning the importance of teamwork. We encourage parents to ask their children about the new things they’ve learned and how they're adjusting to junior high life. It's all about setting a solid foundation for success!
Nuestros estudiantes de 6to grado se están acostumbrando a sus nuevas rutinas y conociendo a sus compañeros de clase y maestros. Esta semana, los estudiantes se están enfocando en desarrollar hábitos académicos sólidos y aprender la importancia del trabajo en equipo. Reflections/Reflexiones:
Reflections is a National PTA arts recognition and achievement program which inspires students to create original works of art based on a theme. To celebrate this year’s theme “Accepting Imperfection,” all students in District 15 are invited to participate in a free Reflections Workshop hosted by the Northwest Suburban Council of PTA/PTSA on Monday, October 7, 6:30pm, at Winston Campus. Families will learn about the Reflections program and students will get creative during interactive mini-sessions with guest artists. Please RSVP here. Questions? Email nwscpta.leaders@gmail.com.
The National PTA Reflections Program is calling all student artists, photographers, musicians, dancers, writers, and more to consider submitting their pieces! Are you interested in finding out more information about the PTA Reflections program? Fill out the Google form or scan the code to RSVP for the Reflections workshop taking place at WCMS on 10/7 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. If a student is interested in submitting their original piece, entry forms are available from the front office or your ELA teacher. All entries for this contest are due on 11/8.

Annual Safety Drills/Simulacros de seguridad anuales
The safety of our students is always a top priority at our school. Our goal is not only to provide a safe environment, but to also prepare our students, staff, and school community to know how to respond if a crisis arises. To that end, each year, schools are required by Illinois School Code to conduct safety drills.
This year, as in years past, we will do 2 lockdown drills, 3 fire drills, 1 bus evacuation drill, and 1 shelter in place drill. For lockdown drills, parents have the option to opt their student out of the drill. The student will still be in the building during the drill, but will sit in a room with a different teacher and talk through the steps of the lockdown procedure instead of taking part in the drill with their classmates. If you would like to opt your student out of lockdown drills, please complete the Safety Drill Opt-Out Form. Our first lockdown drill will be 10/14/24.
La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es siempre una prioridad máxima en nuestra escuela. Nuestro objetivo no es solo proporcionar un entorno seguro, sino también preparar a nuestros estudiantes, personal y comunidad escolar para saber cómo responder si surge una crisis. Con ese fin, cada año, las escuelas están obligadas por el Código Escolar de Illinois a realizar simulacros de seguridad.
Este año, como en años anteriores, realizaremos 2 simulacros de cierre, 3 simulacros de incendio, 1 simulacro de evacuación de autobús y 1 simulacro de refugio en el lugar. Para los simulacros de cierre, los padres tienen la opción de optar por la exclusión de su estudiante del simulacro. El estudiante seguirá estando en el edificio durante el simulacro, pero se sentará en una sala con un maestro diferente y hablará sobre los pasos del procedimiento de cierre en lugar de participar en el simulacro con sus compañeros de clase. Si desea optar por la exclusión de su estudiante de los simulacros de cierre, complete este Formulario de exclusión de simulacros de seguridad. Nuestro primer simulacro de cierre será el 10/14/24.
