Dear Parents,
Welcome to the second quarter of the school year! Report cards are now available at our Home Access Center. If you have not done so already, be sure to take the time to review the report card with your child and discuss the positives and any areas that may need improvement. We look forward to continuing the work we have been doing as a school to help our students learn and reach their greatest potential. It was so nice to see all our families during Parent/Teacher Conferences last month. I would ask that parents continue to ask questions and be involved in their children’s learning throughout the year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need assistance in understanding anything about your child’s instruction, goals, etc.
As we enter the time with colder months ahead, please have your children dress appropriately for the cooler temperatures. We do continue to be outside before school and for recess, unless the “feels like” temperature is below 15 degrees.
I want to communicate a friendly reminder that students enter the building for the start of school at 7:55 a.m. so they are in class ready to start learning at 8:00 a.m. Any student that enters the building after 8:00 a.m. is marked as “tardy” to school in their attendance record. Please make sure your students get to school on time. Also, please know that students who arrive after 7:55 will need to enter through door #1 which is our main entrance door in the front of our building.
If you are dropping your students off in our front circle drive in the morning, please do not park along the curb and get out of your car as this will block the flow of traffic and is a fire lane in case of an emergency. If you need to come into the building or want to walk your student to their grade level door before school, you will need to find a parking space in the lot or on the street in the neighborhood.
I want to thank all our families for your continued support of Smith Elementary School as we do everything we can to continually improve student learning. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Pete Clabough, Ed.D.
Principal – Smith Elementary School
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SCHOOL NURSE 💙
Smith Families,
the health office is in need of girls & boys underwear & clothes sizes 5-8. Anything is appreciated 💙
ARRIVAL MESSAGE
- Students should be in the building at 7:55 a.m. so they can be in their classroom learning at 8:00 a.m. This means they need to be dropped off between 7:45 - 7:50 a.m. so students can get to their grade level door and then be let into the building.
- When students are dropped off around 8:00 a.m., which is happening for many of our students, they still need to walk through the hallway, hang up their coats, gather their belongings for class, and grab their breakfast at the breakfast station. This takes time and they miss out on morning announcements and learning time. Also, when students arrive late to the classroom it is a disruption to the teachers and rest of the students in that class.
- So, I am asking if you can please make some adjustments to your morning routine so that our students arrive to school on time.
- If there is something we can help you with in this regard or you have any questions, please reach out to me.
PETS
I know it is super exciting for students when their favorite 4 legged friend is at dismissal to pick them up or walks to school with them in the morning. However, we need your help. Some of our students are afraid of dogs, allergic to them, and sometimes they have accidents on the grass leaving some unwanted presents. Students also have a difficult time with boundaries and may rush up to the pet. This in turn can be overwhelming for your pet and they may act unpredictable causing harm. I regret that for the safety of everyone I have to ask you please leave your pets at home. I sincerely thank you for your understanding in this matter.
