September Kindness Calendar for Students!
In addition to our monthly character trait and mindset, our RES students, families and staff will continue to practice acts of kindness all year long. Click here to view and print the kindness calendar for September. Paper copies of the kindness calendar have been sent home.
Students: For every kindness task our students complete, they will check it off their calendars. Students may return their calendar to their homeroom teacher, or to Mrs. Britt, on Tuesday, October 1st.
Students with 20 or more completed tasks will join Mrs. Britt at lunch to paint kindness rocks for our RES Rock Gardens in the front of the school!
Mindful Tip of the Week
Deep Breathing Exercises
Sometimes it is good to have a mindful moment and sit with our thoughts. Let’s try to find a quiet and cozy spot:
- Sit in a comfortable position; sometimes laying on your back is more calming.
- Close your eyes and take deep breaths: Notice your chest as it rises and falls. Notice the pace you’re breathing. Is it too fast? Too slow?
- Think of something you’re looking forward to or something that brings you joy.
Doing this 5 -10 minute exercise can calm the body and mind, it can reduce our anxieties, blood pressure and bring us to a calm state. Try it as a family!
Below is a set of directions for how you how practice mindfulness:
Take a seat.
Set a time limit.
Notice your body.
Feel your breath.
Notice when your mind has wondered.
Be kind to your wondering mind.
