Loveland Tiger Families,

Earlier this week, I spent a full day in Columbus lobbying for funding for our district, along with Treasurer John Espy, and Board Vice President Lynn Mangan. Governor DeWine’s current budget proposal would cut funding for Loveland City Schools by $2.5 million over our Five-Year Forecast. We are working to prevent these cuts.

During our day in Columbus, we met with Senators Louis Blessing and Terry Johnson, along with Representatives Jean Schmidt, Karen Brownlee, Adam Bird, and an aide for Representative Teska. We shared some of the great data points included below, that demonstrate that Loveland City School District is accomplishing above average results at a below average cost to taxpayers. The good news is that all of the lawmakers we met with said they had already seen our lobbying message - because our community has been sending it to them, along with requests to protect our funding!

We’ve made it easy for you to get clear information about what’s at stake, and take action through our website here: lovelandschools.org/lobby.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting our district by reaching out to state lawmakers.

The state budget process will continue for the next several months - and we’ll continue to provide our community with information.

If you have questions, you can always reach me at mikebroadwater@lovelandschools.org.

I hope you have a fantastic Spring Break!

Go Tigers!

Fundraising for the Steve Kenyon Outdoor Memorial Classroom continues! This exciting project will honor the Loveland grad, and long-time Loveland teacher and coach, who died suddenly last year. The project was envisioned by students on the Loveland High School Green Team and in Tigers Inc., with the support and encouragement of the Kenyon family and the backing of the Loveland Schools Foundation.

The project is closing in on the Phase 2 Goal of $120,000! Concrete work started last week and amazing progress is being made. The project will be almost entirely community-funded, and our community has stepped up in a big way. You can follow this link to donate, and if you want to learn more about the project, please contact Tigers Inc. teacher Craig Murnan at murnancr@lovelandschools.org or LHS Green Team teacher Tonya Nkhata at nkhatato@lovelandschools.org.

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We are very fortunate to have a community that partners with us to make amazing things happen for students.

Earlier this month, Loveland Middle School eighth grade students were able to visit the Holocaust & Humanity Center. The field trips were done in teams to allow students to have more of a small-group experience. Students and teachers had the opportunity to hear a presentation by Steve Coppel, the son of two Holocaust survivors, including his father, Werner Coppel. Steve was able to share the same message that his father shared as he spoke to students, sharing his experience, for more than 35 years. In addition, teams were taken on guided tours by HHC staff members, during which students were encouraged to reflect on how they could use their individual gifts to be “upstanders” and do the right thing in their daily lives. For the second straight year, this trip was made possible through a generous grant offered by the HCC.
