You Are Your Child's First Teacher
Dear Heart River Families,
As we settle into the school year, I want to take a moment to remind you of an important truth: **you are your child’s first and most influential teacher**. The lessons children learn at home—whether academic, social, or behavioral—set the foundation for their success both in school and in life.
While our teachers here at Heart River Elementary are dedicated to providing quality education and fostering growth, the values, habits, and attitudes your child develops begin with you. Here are a few ways you can continue to be a powerful influence in your child’s academic and behavioral journey:
Encourage a Love of Learning
Show your child that learning happens everywhere, not just in the classroom. Reading together, asking questions, and exploring the world through curiosity helps build a love of learning that will carry them through their school years.
Model Positive Behaviors
Children often mirror the actions and attitudes they see at home. By demonstrating patience, kindness, responsibility, and respect in everyday situations, you teach them the importance of these behaviors, both at home and at school.
Create a Routine for Success
Children thrive on consistency. Establishing daily routines for homework, reading time, and chores can help them develop the organizational skills and discipline they need to succeed in school.
Stay Engaged
Stay informed and involved in your child's academic life by keeping open lines of communication with their teachers, attending school events, and celebrating their progress. Your involvement shows your child that their education is a priority.
Support Emotional Growth
Talk to your child about their feelings and help them navigate challenges in a healthy way. Teaching them how to manage emotions and resolve conflicts positively will support their relationships with peers and adults in the classroom.
At Heart River Elementary, we are honored to partner with you in your child’s education. Together, we can ensure that every child grows academically and socially, building the skills they need for a bright future.
Thank you for all that you do to support our school community. Your role as the first teacher is a vital part of your child’s success, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
Warm regards,
Principal Randy R. Muffley
