Bourne High School
Home of the Canalmen! September 20, 2024
Message from the Principal
I am excited to share news about our 3rd Annual “Career and College Exploration Day.”
This event, taking place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, includes several Career & College exploration field trips for BHS students and promises to be an excellent learning and growth opportunity for students in grade-based experiences. Freshmen will join together at Camp Burgess for a day of Team Building and Leadership activities. Sophomores will embark on career-related exploratory trips to learn about different industry sectors. Juniors will delve deeper in next steps after high school, whether their path leads to the world of work, 2-year, or 4-year college. Seniors will implement their collaboration and problem-solving skills in a BHS Day of Service to give back to the community.
Our 3rd Annual “Career and College Exploration Day” aligns with our District Strategic Plan, our BHS School Improvement Plan, and our College and Career Readiness Programming, in that it affords every Canalmen a chance to strengthen their industry knowledge and skills and enhance their college and career readiness. Engagement in the day’s explorations will support our Canalmen to make purposeful and targeted academic, extra-curricular, and social decisions regarding the future.
Some students will serve as student leaders at the BHS Spotlight on The Bourne Advantage for our 7th and 8th grade guests who will step up to the high school for the day and engage in various academic and co-curricular activities. They will facilitate activities with educator partners in a variety of content areas on the 26th.

Morning Arrival Update
We are always looking to improve school safety. To that end, we are communicating a change to morning arrival starting on Monday. Students who drive will now enter the front door. The side/gym entrance will only be open from 7:30-7:40 with adult supervision. Outside of that time, students should enter the front entrance. All doors are locked and all visitors should only use the main entrance to sign in.
This change does not impact bus drop off or parent drop off at the main entrance. Thank you for your support.

Floats and Homecoming Court at Halftime
Please keep the following Float Decorating guidelines in mind:
- It’s expected that the decorations will be prepared and brought together to a central location (campus, community center) to be put together
- Multiple students, with support from adults, should assume roles for creating different parts of the float, such as construction, painting, assembly, etc.
- Make sure design is structurally sound and distribute the weight across the float to prevent tipping
- Adult (Class Advisor) supervision of all decorating is required. An adult must drive the floats at the homecoming game.
- Floats must be completed and ready to go Wednesday evening 10/3 – and staged at the back side of the field by the tennis courts in the BIS parking lot by Thursday afternoon (by 4 p.m.)
- There is no throwing of any items from the floats (like candy or streamers- nothing that needs to be cleaned up on the track).
- Students can walk with or be stationed on your float.
- Costumes are encouraged, as is music (live or streaming with speakers), lights, and props.
- Everything depicted should be school appropriate and adhere to handbook guidelines.
- Decorations should be secured so that they withstand driving and the elements Wednesday- Friday, and do not interfere with travel.
- Classes may use some class funds toward decorations, but most items should be gathered from preexisting options – seek out donations! Reduce, reuse, recycle!
- Have fun and get creative!
Each class selected a movie theme to build, which is as follows:
Class of 2028-Toy Story
Class of 2027-Alice in Wonderland
Class of 2026-Up
Class of 2025-Tangled
Can't wait to see these wonderful creations and have a fun night at Homecoming Football!!
