Newsletter proudly sponsored by
Principals Message:
Kia ora whaanau,
This week we have had student conferences. It was great to see a number of students and parents engaging in opportunities to discuss learning. 40% of our families attended over the two evenings. Thank you to all those who came. If you didn’t manage to make it you can still contact teachers directly and make an appointment to see them.
The teacher only day was a big success. Our NCEA staff had a look at the new standards that will come into effect from 2023. There was lots of discussion around how this will affect course design. The rest of the school worked with our professional development facilitators on collaborative planning. We then finished off the day with an hour looking at PB4L where we looked at incident examples and discussed ways to deal with them. If you would like to look at more information about PB4L please click on the link PB4L
We have started our processes for out of zone enrolment. We are currently advertising 50 spaces for 2022. If you plan on enrolling a child in 2022 or you know of people wanting to enroll please check out the enrolment page of the website and complete the enrolment application pack.
This month the concerns and complaints policy is up for review. You can provide feedback on this policy by heading to the school website, logging into the policy site and using the feedback button in the top right corner of the policy. Feedback needs to be provided before the September board meeting to be considered in the review.
At assembly this week we talked about the upcoming cross country. Cross country is a whole school event where participation is encouraged. Please talk with your child about giving it a go. Even if running is not something they enjoy, there is a lot of fun and school spirit created through these events. Parents are welcome to come, a schedule for the day will be shared closer to the event.
Ngaa mihi,
Rebecca Bills

Daffodil Day:
This year Daffodil Day, one of The Cancer Society’s main fundraisers is being held on Friday 27th August. We have once again registered our school to take part in this fundraising event. Friday the 27th will be a non-uniform day, and students and staff are encouraged donate a gold coin to the cause, and to come to school dressed in bright colours – particularly daffodil colours. There will also be other opportunities to participate in daffodil day with writing and colouring, and other activities. More information about these will be given in next week’s newsletter.
Daffodil Day symbolises hope for all New Zealanders impacted by cancer. Sadly, every day 71 New Zealanders receive a cancer diagnosis. As a school we can help families in our community affected by cancer by participating in Daffodil Day. $24 helps to provide transport to and from cancer treatment. $58 helps to fund counselling for cancer patients and their whaanau. $107 helps to provide accommodation for those travelling to treatment, and $150 contributes to research that improves prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Last year we raised over$600.00. Let’s join together and see what we can achieve this year.

Community Notices:
***WDC IMPORTANT INFORMATION***
Waikato District Council are currently undertaking a review on how effective the current representation arrangements are within our District. As a consequence of this review, ward and community boards boundaries are likely to change. Following consultation with interest groups, we have come up with an initial proposal that is likely to effect your community. There is a current proposal to split the current Onewhero/Tuakau Community Board and replace the “western” side of the river with a community committee. We NEED to hear whether you agree or disagree with this. If you disagree, we want to hear what you WOULD like to see. We are now taking submissions - you have until Friday 20th August 5pm to enter a submission. Council facilitated community drop-in sessions have been planned for Tuesday 3rd August, Pukekawa Hall 6pm and Tuesday 10th August 5.30pm Tuakau Town Hall. Please come along, be informed and ask your questions of staff and councillors. Please follow the link to find out more; https://shape.waikatodistrict.govt.nz/reshape-waikato or alternatively I am available through email; carolyn.eyre@waidc.govt.nz<mailto:carolyn.eyre@waidc.govt.nz>
