Library Activities
February Library Activities
We will be celebrating the Chinese New Year, actually on Jan.29th.
- We have a display of our books written by wonderful Chinese authors and some very interesting stories they tell.
- We read the the book Ramen for Everyone by Patricia Tanumihardja about Ramen, which has a rich history.
- We will also discuss the history of the Chinese immigrants who built the railroad in 1865 from San Francisco to Utah. We read a book called Coolies by Yin that discussed the history behind the derogatory name.
- We are playing with Tangrams to see what we can make
- We are using our origami skills to make fortune tellers.
- Then on to Valentines Day, we will be reading The Invisible String by Patrice Karst and making our own heart string necklaces.
- Karen Millichamp
Monarch Update
The Monarch is the children's choice award in Illinois for students in grades K-2. Students were read all of the books, and then voted for their favorites. Votes need to be submitted to the state organization between February 15 and March 15, and then the state winners will be announced.
- We have the results from our students voting for the Illinois nominated Monarch books.
- We had the whole school vote and...
- in third place was Norman Didn't Do It, Yes He Did.
- Second place was There's a Ghost in this House.
- Our first place winner is I Am the Shark!
- We are excited to see if our winners are the same as the state winners!
