Summer Update #4 - August 09, 2024
August9th, 2024
A Back to School Prayer π
Heavenly Father,
as my child embarks on another school year,
I come to you with a heart full of gratitude.
Thank you for entrusting me with the privilege
of guiding and supporting them in their journey.
Lord, grant me the wisdom to lead them with patience,
the strength to uplift them in challenges,
and the love to inspire them in their growth.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
β Proverbs 22:6
THANK YOU π
Dear Bruin Family,
First of all, I want to thank all of the families that came out and purchased uniform items at our PTO Gently Used Uniform Sale yesterday! In addition to our families walking away with some much needed items, the sale brought in over $2,000 towards our PTO fundraising goal!
I would also like to thank all of our new families who were in attendance at our New Parent Orientation! It was so nice to meet all of you and officially welcome you to the Bruin family. Remember that we are here to support you and partner with you in your child(s) education. Do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions as you settle into the school year!
Finally, I would like to thank our Student Council members, Ms. Ruiz, our parent volunteers, and our PTO who all came together to make last night run smoothly and successfully! We are truly blessed by a wonderful community who are invested in the success of St. Dorothy Catholic School!
I hope that you enjoy your last full week of summer! Continue to pray for our faculty and staff who are busy preparing for the year ahead. We can't wait to see you on the 19th and 20th!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff
π SCHEDULING UPDATE REMINDER π
Bruin Club will still be offered immediately following school on Fridays with the exception of certain special days throughout the year (usually before a holiday). In addition, we are excited to continue offering our Bruins Explore program. This program is run by parent volunteers and comes at a low cost to all who wish to participate.
We recognize that this may prove difficult for working families and we want to provide as much support as possible as you adjust your schedules for Friday pickup. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Nearhoff at rnearhoff@stdorothyschool.com
π π SCHOOL SUPPLY DROP OFF - AUGUST 19TH
On Monday, August 19th we welcome all families to come on campus and drop off their school supplies from 9:00-2:00pm. This is a great opportunity to take some stress away from the first day of school as your students are able to come to the classroom, meet the teacher, see their desks, and drop off their supplies for the school year! If you are unable to make it, you are welcome to bring supplies on the first day of school.

FAMILY MASS SCHEDULE
Once a month, St. Dorothy Catholic School partners with the Religious Education department to present a Family Mass. In this Sunday mass, students are given the opportunity to serve in ministries typically reserved for our adult parishioners such as ushering and serving as lectors. We encourage all St. Dorothy Catholic School families to attend these masses as we continue to build community with our parish! See the 24/25 schedule below.

Did You Know?
August 10-11 || What can you do to end human trafficking?
Even if you have no daily connection with human trafficking, you can do your part to help stop this crime. Start with the basics β know the facts about human trafficking, what it looks like, and how to get help from the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Look at your community, and what resources are available for anti-trafficking organizations. You can volunteer, raise awareness, or even simply educate yourself and others about the dangers. For more ideas, visit acf.hhs.gov.
August 17-18 || What can you do to end human trafficking?
What do you do if you see a child who appears to be lost in a store? A missing child is everyoneβs responsibility. Adults who suspect a child may be lost or need help should get involved. Ask the child if he needs help. Keep the child in eyesight and enlist the help of store employees to locate a parent or guardian. Wait with the child until help arrives. Do not leave with or without the child. For more information, visit the missingchildrensnetwork.ngo.
Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
