A Message from the Administrator

Greetings MCS Families,


I hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend! That will be the last one for quite a few weeks. This week has been a very exciting week as Tuesday was the 100th day of school! Our Kindergarten and 1st grade classes celebrated with extra reading time and Kinder. students each brought in 100 items that they counted together. This Friday is Book-a-bunga with local guest author Annette Pimentel. (A huge thanks to our PAT for providing this!) This is a great day for students to learn about the writing process and to read a variety of books as the day goes on. (More information about this below.)


The Science Fair is coming up with the deadline on March 1st. In the past couple of years our participation has been minimal. This is a great event put on for students in the city and I would really like to see great participation this year. As a parent, I look forward to my son taking part and hope to see others join in! (We will include more information about this below.)


Intent to Return Forms were sent out last week. If you would like to keep your spot for the 2020-2021 school year, it is crucial that you submit this at the following link: https://forms.gle/x9K4rwAb8cXdav4R7

If you are considering transferring to a different school in town, please give me the opportunity to address any reasons/concerns you may have for wanting to transfer. We have wonderful students, staff, and families with many exciting things for the upcoming school year!


As for a construction update, the siding should be nearly finished this week. The plumbing went through inspection yesterday and now the electrical is being installed. The HVAC system arrived today and on Monday there will be a crane on site to place the rooftop units on the building. Please make sure you use the path between the house and the portable to get to the main building. Also, please continue to use the drop off and pick up area at the HIRC. There are quite a few families that have been dropping off on F street, which causes congestion and confusion to families in our neighborhood.

4th Annual MCS Bookabunga Reading Day

"DIG INTO A BOOK"

Friday, February 21, 2020

A celebration of reading for learning and for pleasure


Local author Annette Bay Pimentel to sharing her "Do You Really Want to Meet a Dinosaur?" series at morning assemblies for both middle school and elementary grades. Parents are welcome to attend. Bookpeople of Moscow is offering families the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of any of Mrs. Pimentel's dinosaur books for your dino fans. See the attached order form with links to each of the 12 books available, or return it with a check to your student's teacher by Friday, February 14th.


Each student's class will be participating in Bookabunga in their own way. Look for communications from your student's teacher about activities and opportunities. We encourage students to bring LOTS of choice reading material to school on the 21st so they can snuggle up with and "dig into a book" whether in silent reading or partnering with a buddy.

The 2020 Moscow Elementary School Science Fair is almost here!

All Moscow students from kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to participate in the Science Fair.


Students should select projects that match their interests and abilities. They should conduct research or experiments to explore a scientific question.

Participating in the science fair should be fun and provide a chance for students and their families to work together.
