UNRAVEL: An In Depth Collaboration between CoSA Dance, CoSA Visual Arts and Safe Harbor

Psychology Today recently stated, “To be human is to carry emotional knots.”
The mental and emotional entanglements we often find ourselves in have served as a jumping off point for a CoSA Dance and CoSA Visual Art collaboration which includes performance, live art and an exhibition. Dance and Art students spent the term working together to explore some of the mental and emotional knots we get tied up in as humans, knots created from stress, grief, and mental disorders. Students then learned and experienced how we can untie those knots through numerous mindfulness practices and art-making. Unravel is the culmination of our research and collaboration. It is an evening of original dances and art that will be presented December 13 and 14 at 7:00pm in the Coronado Performing Arts Center at Coronado High School. Join us and witness our dancers and artists as they process life’s challenges and celebrate personal growth.
In Unravel, faculty and student choreographers explore themes such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Body Dysmorphia, ADHD, the importance of supportive relationships, self-talk, and more. One notable piece in the program is “Love and Armor” by CoSA Dance Director, Gina Bolles Sorensen. The piece features the full CoSA Dance ensemble and draws attention to parent-child relationships, specifically the urge a parent has to suit up their child in the armor they need to meet challenges of living in today’s world.
CoSA student artists have taken a closer look at how we Unravel the knots created from facing the challenges of daily living and how we maintain balance. In their original artworks, student artists explore positive mental health practices based on personal preference as well as the well-being approaches introduced through our collaborative yoga and breathwork activities, strategies introduced by Safe Harbor and information about nutrition and nature was provided by local Ayurveda Teacher, Laura Plumb. The exhibit will be on view in the lobby prior to the dance performances and during intermission.
CoSA Dance and CoSA Visual Art are grateful to be partnering with Safe Harbor Coronado in this concert. Safe Harbor is a nonprofit organization committed to the mental health of our community and beyond. Safe Harbor provides comprehensive social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health programs to protect and empower youths and families.

Headshots are a Professional Practice for Creatives.
Acting headshots are a type of portrait photo used by actors and actresses to help them land acting roles. Typically, casting directors use headshots to help them decide whether applicants have the right “look” and charisma for a given role. Artists, Designers and Musicians also represent themselves professionally with headshots in promotional materials, media, websites and portfolios.
Headshots are a wonderful Creative Keepsake for Parents, Grandparents and Extended Family !
All CoSA Conservatories have been scheduled for a complimentary headshot sitting. A standard professional headshot sitting usually averages $250 and Digital Copies of headshots average at least $100.

ABOUT KEL: https://www.kelcasey.com/contact.html
Capturing life in motion is what I do best.
I love photographing all sports, and taking "portraits" in informal, comfortable settings. I strive to
capture the essence of who the person is with candid, un-posed photos.
My services are flexible. I will photograph a team, a game,
or one particular child during a game. I do casual individual and family portraits.
I also believe that "action" is not confined to specific sports.
If you have a child who loves to swim, leap, splash or just run,
please don't hesitate to contact me.
