Field Trip to The MOCA Grand!
Photo: The MOCA Grand building has an interesting history itself, as A former police car warehouse in L.A.'s Little Tokyo Historic District, it was renovated by the noted California architect Frank Gehry. The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA has 40,000 square feet of contemporary art exhibition space.
La Mirada High School Art Students Explore Hilbert Museum
On December 5th, La Mirada High School art students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of contemporary art during a field trip to the Hilbert Museum of California Art. Led by Ms. Alicia Rolon and Sylvana Calhorrano, the students were guided through the museum's exhibitions, which showcase a rich collection of California-based art spanning several decades.
The trip allowed students to experience firsthand the diverse artistic styles and movements that have shaped California’s cultural landscape. The Hilbert Museum, known for its focus on both historic and contemporary works, provided an inspiring environment for students to engage with art in a meaningful way.

Los Alisos musicians brought energy and excitement to the 2024-25 Los Alisos Middle School Showcase, delighting attendees with their performance. Under the lively guidance of Geena Biondi, the musicians added a playful twist by performing a school-friendly rendition of "Tequila," humorously renamed "Capri Sun," much to the audience's amusement.

Quote of the Month
In the season of lights and colored glass and in honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Dale Chihuly quotes are in high order-- "I never met a color I didn't like." and "I don’t know if something can be too colorful..." .
It might come as a great surprise when this artist of color and light shares that he has a disability that includes blindness in one of his eyes. His work, defined by asymmetry and irregularity, reflects his belief in the beauty of imperfection and the natural world’s unpredictability. After a 1976 car accident left him blind in one eye, Chihuly’s resilience and passion for art led him to relearn glassblowing just six months later, adapting by using his drawing skills to guide his team.
His accident became a pivotal moment in his career, inspiring him to create his iconic chandeliers and other works that explore light’s interaction with glass. Despite challenges like depression, Chihuly has continued to push through, working tirelessly during moments of inspiration to create awe-inspiring art.
