Greetings Patriot Families,

We have made it to our Homecoming Week and the committee has been hard at work to plan an array of activities and themed events throughout the week. Thank you to Ms. McDaniel and Ms. Lukiri for supervising the students over the weekend as our hallways transformed to promote our Movie Premiere homecoming themes. A list of all the happenings are featured further down in our newsletter and we hope that our families will join in on all of the homecoming fun. We would love to see a record turn out for our Homecoming Parade and football game on Friday night as we announce our Homecoming winners across all categories!

The PSAT is coming up next month! Freshman and Sophomore students can take advantage of this opportunity free of charge as the fee has been waived. This national assessment is a key indicator for how your student is likely to perform on the SAT/ACT. All Junior students taking the PSAT will have the opportunity to quality for the National Merit Scholarship and the fee is $20. Additional information can be found in the flyer further down in this newsletter.

Our varsity football team had an exciting overtime win on the road against Collins Hill last Friday winning 27-21! Orchestra students Jawanza Blue and Moses Morano were invited to Kennesaw State University last week to play in the Georgia Honors Orchestra and represented Fayette County and SCHS very well! Congratulations are in order for our Drum Major, Xavier Godfrey who placed 2nd overall in the Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt Program. Our Lady Patriots will celebrate Senior Night this Thursday with Volleyball where we will honor Jada Caruthers, Skye Graham, and Aubrey Wilson! Lady Patriots Softball continues to run strong as we approach our first set of region games at home on Monday and Tuesday of this week. And Ms. Daniella Maxon was promoted as the Unit Group Commander and earned her new rank as C/Lieutenant Colonel this Friday along with a host of other AFJROTC promotions!There are plenty of ways in which you can lend your support to our outstanding students this week so please join us as we cheer on our Patriots and show them how proud we are!

We are excited to support our students in their academic endeavors while providing them with a competitive advantage!

The Defensive Lineman of the week is Sophomore DE #15, Evan Harvey. Evan recorded 5 Solo tackles all for a loss with 2 assists. He had 3 QB sacks, & 2 QB hurries. Evan also caused 2 fumbles. #ProudofthisPatriot

Two of our Chamber Orchestra students, Jawanza Blue and Moses Morano will be represented SCHS in the North Georgia Honors Orchestra at KSU. This intensive two-day event will end with a culminating performance at the Morgan Concert Hall, Bailey Performance Center at the KSU Marietta Campus.

Congratulations to Mr. Xavier Godfrey on his outstanding achievement, placing 2nd overall in the Region 2, 3, & 4 Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt Program! Xavier and his trusted Saxophone competed against over 50 contestants who were all competing for a chance to make it to the State competition. Xavier’s 2nd place finish will indeed advance him on to the State competition! Xavier is our 2023 Band Drum Major. Congratulations Xavier and good luck at the State competition. A special shout out to the Men of Omega Psi Phi for recognizing his talents along with the others and providing this platform for young talents to thrive. As always Go Patriots!

The SCHS Advanced Treble Chorus & the FRMS Singers will present their ACDA Preview Concert on Thurs., 9/21, at 6:30 PM in Patriot Hall. Both ensembles were selected to perform at the Georgia American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) State Conference on 10/6, at KSU.

All SCHS students are eligible to enter this oral essay contest. Please see Major Bohles with JROTC for more information.

The 2024 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program nomination window is open from September 1 to November 1. Any high school senior may complete the application, provided they meet all program qualifications outlined by the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The student informational brochure includes information on the application criteria and the two required essays. The application, program criteria, and informational brochure are on the Excellence Recognitions USPS webpage. Applications are due by November 1 at 5:00 p.m.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 35th class in 2023, the Foundation has provided over 6,750 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $81 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. The 2024 application will be available August 1-October 2, 2023, for students who will graduate during the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Campus Parent portal is your source for student and family records, including household and individual contact information, attendance, school-based fees, academic planning (high school), forms, and report cards. The Parent portal also provides access to the GaDOE SLDS Portal. Please set up the parent Infinite Campus account first. The same username will be shared with Schoology to set up your parent account in Schoology. Because each login reflects the person associated with the username, it is recommended that a separate account is created for each parent.

• Usernames can be comprised of letters, numbers, the underscore, and dash.
• Please refrain from creating a username that is all numbers, as that will interfere with student data here in our district.
• After completing the setup of your parent portal account, please allow 24 hours for your new account information to be sent to Schoology before attempting to log into your Schoology parent account.
