Blue Jay Flyer
March 20, 2024
From the Principal's Desk...
Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend last weekend. Our teachers/staff enjoyed a day off on Friday and then spent Monday continuing their Professional Development on Data and Differentiation. Mrs. Reder and Mrs. Flick did a wonderful job this year coaching the teachers on how to use data to drive instruction in our classrooms and how to use flexible groups to meet each student at their level. It is great to hear our teachers share success stories in small groups and offer up ideas for how to help students in multiple ability groups.
We look forward to seeing all our special guests this Friday at our annual Breakfast with your Blue Jay– Dad’s addition. The pictures should be interesting with our Spirit Week theme of “Comfy as Can Be” on Friday. Please know that we have limited seating in our school for the number of students and special guests that will be in attendance. Please feel free to bring a camp chair if you would like.
So far we have had about 50% of our families turn in their EdChoice applications for the 2024-25 school year. Please remember that you have to apply each year for an EdChoice Scholarship. We would like to get all applications turned in before May 1st so that we can get our families approved before the summer. If you have questions, please reach out to Holly Sundrup at edchoice@stjohnsdrschool.org
Thanks and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Courtney Weinheimer

Box Tops
Hello Blue Jay families! My name is Laura Juhlman and I am the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for our school. During the ups and downs of the past couple of school years, one thing is certain: teachers and students need more help than ever before. Box Tops is a fast and easy way for you to support Sample Elementary School. Our goal is to earn $1,000 through Box Tops this year. We have currently earned $143.90 and are 14% of the way there!
Here’s how you can help us reach our goal:
- Buy Box Tops products, scan your receipt with the Box Tops app within 14 days of purchase and earn for Sample Elementary School with every Box Tops product you buy.
- Refer your friends, family and other parents in the school to download the app. You’ll even get Bonus Box Tops for our school with each referral that successfully scans their first receipt.
- Turn on notifications in your Box Tops app to get scan reminders and stay updated on special offers, new products and opportunities to earn for our school. Go to your Communications Settings by tapping on the person icon in the upper-right corner of the app.
Let’s give our teachers the support they need and give more kids the opportunity to dream. Little by little, we can help make a big difference.

Athletic Boosters
Concession Scheduler Needed
The athletic boosters are creating a new position within our organization, “Concession Scheduler”. We are looking for someone to fill this role and would entail the following:
• Create a signup genius with slots based on the game schedules (Fall and Spring sports only for outdoor concession) to staff the concession
• Send emails to families with active sports participants to sign up for slots
• Ensure we have coverage for all available slots and adjust schedule based on rainouts
• Create a schedule of openers/closers to make sure someone is present to unlock at the day’s start of games and to make sure everything is closed.
The concession stand provides an important revenue stream to support our various programs and to keep costs down. If you have any questions prior to committing, please reach out to me directly and I would be happy to provide more information. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
