THURSDAY (8/22) Meet and Greet and Supply Drop-Off
Tomorrow is the big day! Thursday, Aug 22nd from 9:30-10:30am is the Meet and Greet and Supply Drop-off. Please come to the front of the school and you will be directed to your student’s classroom. A reminder that students do not need to have all the supplies ready in order to stop in. Supplies can be brought in next week too.
Car Number Signs
Car number signs will be available on a table in front of the school. These are needed for matching students with their parents upon dismissal. If you are unable to attend tomorrow, please check your child's backpack on the evening of their first day of school.
Medications
Parents are also welcome to bring student medications for processing. This alleviates long wait times to check in medications on the first day of school. Thank you for your assistance.
First Days of School!
Students in grades 1-5 will start on Monday, 8/26 at 7:45am. You are welcome to come inside the school to drop off your students to their classrooms. Halls will be crowded so please be considerate with how many guests come into the building with you. We encourage your goodbyes and best wishes to be uplifting and brief. Thank you so much for your support with this! Kinder families, details about dropoff are in the Kinder newsletter below.

Message from the Principal
Dear Oak Hills Families,
Teachers and staff are back to Oak Hills this week! It's been an important and meaningful week of reflection, new learning, and preparing to welcome students back to school next week.
We look forward to reconnecting with students and families tomorrow! The Meet and Greet and Supply Drop-Off is in the morning so we understand that your child may not be able to make it, but we will be ready to welcome everyone back next week!
A big THANK YOU to all families and community members who visited Oak Hills on Saturday to beautify our school campus! Students and grown-ups dove in with gardening tools to weed, spread mulch, picked up trash and pine cones, trimmed bushes, watered flowers, and much more. It was really wonderful to welcome Kinder and new families--thank you for making time to connect with other families that day! Thank you to PTO for coordinating one of many family events. The campus looks beautiful!
THANK YOU to all families who donated goodies to our staff breakfast on Tuesday! There are enough treats and coffee pods to help us get through each and every morning! Your care and kindness means so much to us.
Keep enjoying the summer! Sounds like many students are gathering supplies and organizing clothes for the start of the week already:) Please remind your sweet children to start training their minds and bodies to go to bed at a decent time to adjust to our early new start time (7:30am Morning Mix; 7:45am Start Time).
See you all soon!
Sincerely,
Ms. Do

Free Meals for All BSD Students (REPEAT)
During the 2024-25 academic year, all BSD students will be eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch at school daily.
Families do not have to apply, and there are no income requirements. This change is due, in part, to more generous eligibility requirements at the federal level and more funding through the state’s Student Success Act. Research indicates that universal free meals improve student health and attendance in addition to reducing bullying and behavioral issues.
Student meals include an entree, sides and a milk. Students must take the entire meal to be eligible for the no-cost option; students who only opt for milk do not qualify for free milk. This is a federal requirement meant to encourage students to eat a well-balanced, school-made meal. The district will continue to charge for à la carte items such as milk, second entrees and snack items.
For additional information about meal service, including monthly menus, please visit Beaverton School District Nutrition Services homepage at: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/nutrition-services
New BSD Volunteer System--Please note this change and register:) (REPEAT)
BSD has moved to a new volunteer tracking system. Please submit an application to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. ALL volunteers need to register through this system. District needs 10 days to process applications. If you are eager to start volunteering or like to plan ahead for events such as Jog-A-Thon, Classroom Parties, Field Trips, please take a few minutes to register:) Oak Hills thrives because of volunteers. Arrival/Dismissal Procedures and Transportation
Student Drop Off
Our school doors will be open at 7:30am for students to access breakfast or report to supervised "morning mix" areas until 7:45am. Students may enter in three ways: through the front doors of the school (car drop off), the rear breezeway doors nearest to the portable classrooms (walkers or bike riders), or through the bus doors (school bus riders). Each of these three entrances will be supervised by Oak Hills staff until the start of the school day. If your child arrives to school before 7:45, they will remain in their assigned grade level “morning mix” area unless they are eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Breakfast is available for ALL students this year. See message about "Free Meals for All BSD Students."
Dismissal for Walkers and Bikers
All walkers and bikers will dismiss from the rear of the building, near the breezeway doors. Walkers and bikers from kindergarten, third grade, and fourth grade will exit from the breezeway doors. Walkers and bikers from our first grade, second grade, and fifth grade classrooms will use the large covered area, near the rear breezeway, as a central departure space. Reminder: All bikes need to be parked in the racks next to the portable area. Last year, we noticed students were parking them along the walkway in the back of the school. They will be moved this year if found there. Students also need to wear helmets (please connect with front office if your child is in need of a helmet). Lastly, locks are strongly encouraged.
Student Car Pick Up
All Oak Hills families will receive a car pick up number for dismissal. Even if your family does not plan on using car pick up regularly, we want to make sure you are assigned a number and are prepared in the event that you do.
We will distribute family car pick up numbers at the Oak Hills Supply Drop off event on Thursday (8/22) from 9:30-10:30. The table will at the front of the building next to the flag pole. If you are unable to make the supply drop off, please consider these two options. 1) Call the school anytime by Monday, 8/19 to request the car number. We will place in the mail for you next week OR 2) We will distribute on the 1st day of school. Please check your child's backpack. We highly recommend biking or walk routes if at all possible to avoid backlog of traffic in the neighborhood. It will be important that your daily transportation plan remains consistent from day to day. Please communicate your child’s dismissal plan prior to the first day of school.
Our parking lot is a busy place during arrival and dismissal times. When you arrive, we ask that you make a single line as you enter the parking lot. Have your car pick up number displayed on your dash or in your passenger side window. A staff member will enter this number, which will signal your child’s teacher that you have arrived. Please pull all of the way forward and remain at the wheel. Staff members will help direct students to their correct vehicle. All students must enter cars through the passenger side doors. For our youngest learners, this may mean that extra seat belt buckling practice would be helpful in the coming weeks.
Efficiency in loading will ensure a safe and speedy dismissal for all. We appreciate your ongoing partnership!
Bus Information
Elementary students who live more than one mile from school are eligible for bus service. Your child’s information is automatically sent to the Transportation Department when you enroll at school. If the student is eligible for bus service, they will automatically be assigned a bus route. You will receive an email from BSD Transportation Department with your student's routing information soon. Due to the smaller number of students, after-school routes are more generic in nature and are generated to serve a larger area of the District. For this reason, a student’s regular route stop may be closer to their home than the corresponding after-school route stop.
Each BSD bus has the route number displayed next to the front door on the passenger side and under the driver’s window on the driver’s side with white numbers on a black background. Your student's routing information includes the bus route number.
School buses can become delayed due to unpredictable traffic conditions. A traffic snarl, traffic accident or a longer-than-scheduled loading at a previous bus stop can easily throw your bus 10-15 minutes off schedule. Please arrive a few minutes early to your child’s bus stop. If your child’s bus is running late, please allow at least 15 minutes before calling Dispatch at 503-356-4200.
